Position at Hood Lumber

Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood and lumber manufacturing plants and twenty-three specialty wood product distribution operations located in eighteen states.
 
We are hiring a Stacker Operator position at our sawmill located in Waynesboro, MS. This position is responsible for operating equipment to stack layers of lumber into packages. We are seeking high performing and motivated team players to join our team and grow with us.

Responsibilities:

  • Commitment to working safely and follow all company policies and procedures related to lumber mill operations. 
  • Collaborates with other team members to ensure smooth workflow and efficient production. 
  • Safely and efficiently operate machinery to stack, sort, and organize lumber correctly. 
  • Monitor equipment for proper functioning and contact supervisor for any issues. 
  • Ensure the stick distribution center is operating properly. 
  • Ensure each pack stacked has the same dimension of lumber. 
  • Communicate with Sorter Operators on when to move lumber down the haul out chain. 
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on the stacker equipment, including, lubrication, and minor repairs. 
  • Moves lumber over the unscrambler, using control buttons, to the pre-course make up deck, which holds requested lumber. 
  • Responsible for manually straightening lumber as it moves on conveyor and ensures package quality throughout the process. 
  • Inspect stacked lumber for defects and ensure it meets quality standards. 
  • Responsible for cleanup activities and maintaining a clean work area. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED preferred. 
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. 
  • Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly utilizing hand, eye, and foot coordination.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient production. 
  • Able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Performs tasks such as walking, climbing steps/ladders, sitting, and standing for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. throughout the work shift.
  • Able to work in a noisy, dusty, and non-temperature-controlled environment.
