Hood Distribution, established in 1899, is a wholesale distributor of hardwood lumber & plywood as well as related specialty wood products. We currently have 16 locations providing distribution in Arizona, North Texas, the eastern US and the Caribbean markets. Our primary customers turn our wood into something special.
We are currently looking for a Mill Lead person for our Durham, CT location. We are a wholesale distributor of specialty building products whose customers include cabinet shops, millwork houses, lumber dealers and similar businesses. The successful candidate should have experience in maintaining and operating a mill.
Key Responsibilities Include:
· Operating the mill to saw rough lumber into S4S lumber and various profiles.
· Installing and maintaining all mill moulder/planer/saw machinery and equipment.
· Utilizing woodworking tools like hand-held routers, table saws, band saws, miter saws, sanders etc.
· Training machine operators and employees of the mill
· Performing preventative maintenance on the mill including repair moulder/planning/saw(s)
· Operate a forklift and/or walk-behind to lift and load lumber, cants, and boards onto trailers.
· Ensure quality assurance of lumber product output as well as grading lumber.
· Stacking and palletizing materials
· Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
· Troubleshoot equipment that is not functioning properly.
· Clean and organize the mill regularly.
· Assist the Operations Manager in scheduling, millwork ticket processing, mill adjustments, etc.
