Distribution Manager

The Distribution Centre Manager is a new position which will be an integral part of the Home Hardware Supply Chain. This position is responsible for directing all operations of the Kitchener Dealer Support Centre to meet the needs of our Home Hardware Dealers and work closely with the LBM Commodity Teams to plan and manage both inbound and outbound order volumes.

What you'll do:

  • Operational planning, budgeting, efficiency and effectiveness achieving service level objectives/targets in support of corporate initiatives.
  • Be responsible for safe, efficient movement of goods and merchandise in and out of the facility including inventory control and yard layout/management. Work closely with the LBM Commodity Team to plan, schedule and manage inbound shipments and outbound orders (including delivery notification) for all orders processed in and out of the facility.
  • Be responsible for the management and oversight of the receiving of products, order fulfillment/ processing, trailer/shipment planning(building) and loading to the point of ensuring invoice processing is completed as part of the overall process.
  • Coordinate delivery requirements with assigned carriers and working with the Transportation team to plan and manage transportation requirements.
  • Lead, train, develop, mentor and coach the team. Establish and communicate performance expectations, determine training and career development needs, develop progression plans, and manage performance. Communicate and delegate to the team managing and prioritizing customers need and requirements.  Participate and conduct training programs and standards such as forklift testing, basic safety procedures, forklift checks etc.
  • Continuous improvement and learning through investigating and implementing new solutions (technical, equipment or process) to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Be responsible for compliance for Health & Safety procedures and protocols. Ensure legal compliance.
  • Respond for handling Dealer inquiries and concerns in a prompt, professional, courteous, and effective manner.
  • Authorizing payment(s): audit, analyze, and record invoices as required.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and the facilities working with the Director of Facilities and Maintenance as a resource to plan and manage.

 What we're looking for:

  • 5-10 years of related work experience in the lumber industry is required; LBM Distribution Centre Management experience required.
  • Knowledge of load planning/building specific to lumber.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and motivating a team on all initiatives and deliverables to ensure successful delivery and execution.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Superior customer service skills, attention to detail, with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong negotiation abilities.
  • Problem Solving, critical thinking & conflict resolution skills – lead by example.
  • Safety focus, well-organized, continuous improvement mindset.
  • Highly organized and able to reprioritize to overcome to daily production issues; - forward looking with the able to anticipate service impact issues and put in place contingency action plans to minimize Dealer delivery failures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Knowledgeable and adept in using a multitude of computer systems & platforms and adaptable to the continual changes to them – experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Load Planning Software.
  • 3+ years driving a forklift.
