As the Health and Safety Specialist, you will play a pivotal role of ensuring a healthy and safe working environment for all Team Members. You will support and drive health and safety programs and processes that address incidents, work towards reducing incidents and enable preventative behaviours within the workforce. Led by the Manager, Corporate Health and Safety, this position will best suit a proactive and solutions-driven professional with a genuine passion for building a workplace where safety is lived every day.
Ready to make an impact? Here’s how:
- Provide initial contact for Team Member Health and Safety concerns within the St. Jacobs Dealer Support Centre (DSC) and related Centres, determine response, and address concerns accordingly.
- Review incidents and provide support to Leaders in the Incident Investigation Process. Support effective root cause analysis and identify subsequent corrective actions required to prevent the incident from recurring.
- Perform or coordinate various health and safety inspections as required by legislation, including annual drills.
- Provide leadership to the Emergency Response Team through ensuring appropriate numbers, facilitating training and communication to leaders and crews.
- Design and deliver Health and Safety related training, including conducting Office Orientation (Compliance Safety).
- Ensure all First Aid equipment is properly maintained and in compliance with regulations. Ensure that First Aid is a priority in the event of an injury by maintaining effective levels of First Aiders, as well as supporting procedures.
- Stay up to date on latest Health and Safety research and developments, as it relates to the DSC.
- Act as a backup contact for emergency situations.
- Facilitate HSMS projects and related duties as assigned by the Manager, Corporate Health and Safety.
We’re looking for:
- A college diploma in Health and Safety or similar, alongside 3-5 years of hands-on experience driving health and safety within the workplace.
- A Canadian Registered Safety Technologist (CRST) or equivalent is required. An Internal Auditor certification is an asset.
- Ability to interpret legislation.
- Detail-oriented professional with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Ontario Health & Safety legislation and a passion for continuous improvement.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes.
- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated team player who can also work independently.
- Comfortable engaging with all levels of the organization.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
- Ability to respond 24/7 to emergency situations as needed.

- The expected starting salary range for this role is $56,500 - $74,100; the final offer will reflect relevant skills and experience.
