As the Financial Reporting Director, you will lead Home Hardware’s financial reporting function, ensuring consistent delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant financial information to internal and external stakeholders. You’ll be accountable for the preparation and oversight of financial statements, management reporting, and regulatory disclosures, while maintaining adherence to applicable accounting standards and evolving regulatory requirements. Led by the Vice-President, Corporate Finance and Treasurer, this opportunity suits a hands-on and collaborative finance leader who brings strong technical accounting expertise, operational leadership, and a passion for developing teams and improving processes within a growing and evolving organization.
 
Ready to make an impact in a new role? Here’s how: 
  • Oversee the preparation of internal monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements that are timely and accurate, and in accordance with ASPE. In addition, oversee the preparation and issuance of the semi-annual external financial statements and Management Discussion & Analysis to shareholders.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly/quarterly/annual financial period close processes, including results generation, communication of results, and variance reporting to the Leadership Team, while driving process improvements and accountability across the close cycle.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce accounting policies and procedures, as well as provide guidance on complex and non-routine transactions. Act as a key technical accounting resource for the team and external auditors.
  • Lead the external audit process and manage relationships with auditors. In addition, oversee internal controls over financial reporting, including identifying and remediating control gaps and process weaknesses.
  • Enhance management reporting to provide clear, actionable insights on performance and key drivers, while partnering closely with the FP&A team to align reported results with forecasts, budgets, and strategic plans.
  • Oversee all corporate taxation matters including planning, reporting and compliance. Experience with indirect and sales tax matters is considered an asset.
  • Drive improvements in reporting systems and automation, while focused on enhancing data quality, reporting efficiency, and scalability of processes, including supporting ERP implementation initiatives.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Corporate Finance Team Members, fostering a culture of accountability, rigor, and continuous improvement, while establishing clear roles, accountability, and development paths within a growing and evolving organization. Provide hands-on leadership in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. 
We’re looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or Accounting, with a CPA designation.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including experience leading financial reporting and close processes within a complex organization. Experience within a Big 4 or public accounting environment is considered a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to interact and consult with key senior decision makers. Strong collaboration skills and ability to establish credibility with the broad management team to positively impact business performance.
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex financial data into clear executive level insights.
  • Proven people leadership and stakeholder management capabilities. Experience leading and developing teams with varying levels of experience and expertise in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High standards of integrity, judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional ASPE and/or IFRS technical accounting knowledge. Strong understanding of financial statements, consolidations, internal controls, and external audit requirements.
  • Previous experience of delivering volume, quality output, while adhering to agreed timescales. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under tight deadlines during peak reporting periods.
  • Experience overseeing or supporting corporate tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities is considered an asset.
  • Experience driving process improvements, automation initiatives, and/or ERP implementations is considered an asset.
  • A hands-on, accountable leadership style with the ability to operate independently, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive results with minimal oversight.
  • The ability to be onsite three days a week at our corporate office in St. Jacobs, to accommodate our hybrid working model.
