The College of the Holy Cross seeks an experienced, dynamic, and results-oriented Director of Leadership Annual Giving to lead and execute a strategic leadership annual giving program that raises $12M+ annually in unrestricted giving for the College.
 
Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Individual Giving, the Director of Leadership Annual Giving will be part of the leadership team for the Individual Giving program and is responsible for overseeing and implementing the Leadership Annual Giving program’s strategic initiatives to expand the donor pipeline and oversees 4-5 frontline fundraisers responsible for the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors with the capacity to give at the level of $2,500 – $100,0000 annually. This position carries a portfolio of top annual fund prospects.
 
This role requires a highly motivated leader with demonstrated experience in annual giving and the ability to cultivate strong, lasting donor relationships that are aligned with the mission and priorities of the College of the Holy Cross.
 
Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Develop and execute the strategic vision and operating plan to achieve and grow leadership annual giving ensuring alignment with the broader goals of the Holy Cross Annual Fund and Advancement overall.
  • Oversee all leadership annual giving strategies, track and assess progress towards fundraising goals, ensuring targets are met and exceeded.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of leadership annual fund officers and support staff, including hiring, training and development, workflow, and performance management. Provide guidance on best practices for donor engagement, solicitation strategies, and stewardship.
  • Lead leadership annual giving efforts, cultivating relationships with current and potential donors. Manage a portfolio of 75-100 high-capacity prospects and lead solicitations for unrestricted gifts of all sizes.
  • Oversee the President’s Council, Holy Cross’ premier annual giving society which recognizes alumni, parents and friends for their philanthropic leadership and all leadership annual giving strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with leaders across the organization to support pipeline development and align fundraising strategies with institutional priorities.
  • Partner with the Planned Giving team to identify and incorporate estate giving into solicitation strategies as appropriate.
  • Monitor and report on fundraising progress, using data analytics and metrics to assess trends, refine strategies, and enhance future efforts. Provide regular updates to senior leadership on leadership annual fund performance.
  • Attend a variety of events throughout the year. Regular travel and occasional night and weekend work are required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. At least five years of experience in annual giving fundraising, preferably at an educational institution;
  • A commitment to the mission of College of the Holy Cross
  • A demonstrated successful track record as an annual giving fundraiser;
  • An appreciation of Jesuit Catholic educational traditions and methodology;
  • an understanding of and an ability to succeed at a complex academic institution;
  • an ability to uncover interests, motivations, and objectives from prospective donors, clients, and others;
  • excellent communication skills, including an ability to write persuasively and with efficiency;
  • experience in frontline fundraising with the expertise to manage a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects and collaborate with colleagues across the organization.
  • an ability to persuasively communicate the case for unrestricted and current use support;
  • excellent active listening and interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to donors, volunteers, and colleagues;
  • experience managing a diverse team of professionals performing in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with ability to motivate, grow, and retain high performers.

Additional information: 
This is a full time, exempt level position with a salary range of $125,000 to $137,000. The College is committed to providing competitive market pay for its employees.  The College also offers a competitive benefits package for full-time staff, including:

  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement - upon hire, candidates will need to live within commuting distance
