Description

This position will be responsible for the guidance and development of student athletes that take part in the Cheerleading Program. The candidate will attend scheduled practices and games, advise students on skills and strategies and act as a key link to the Office of Student Involvement.
The Holy Cross Cheer Team is a co-ed spirit group that functions out of the Office of Student Involvement. The team is responsible for promoting Holy Cross Athletics, generating school spirit, and representing the college. The cheer coach reports directly to the Assistant Director of Spirit Programs. The coach  will be experienced with college-level cheer programs and have the leadership skills necessary to develop a cohesive team and a welcoming and inclusive team environment. 

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
  • High school diploma required. Bachelor degree or current enrollment in a bachelor’s program preferred.
  • Experience coaching and/or cheering groups at collegiate-level cheering
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • USA Cheer or UCA/NCA certification/membership
  • Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice schedules dictate
  • Availability for full time August week-long cheer camp.
Work Environment:
  • Provide mentorship, and teach skills to students and monitor adherence to team rules, regulations concerning conduct, appearance, behavior and attendance.
  • Attend all club practices/games (approximately up to 20 hours per week). The anticipated schedule is all home football games, some away football games, all home men’s basketball games, all women’s home basketball games. Potential travel to away competitions.
  • Attend cheer appearances at events and programs.
  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of Cheer Camp held in August. 
  • Be aware of and help to implement program goals, guidelines.
  • Help maintain a culture of professionalism, inclusion and sporting conduct
  • Meet regularly with the Assistant Director of Student Involvement for Spirit Programs to discuss team progress.
  • Maintain professional relationships with the team, administration, vendors, and any members of national governing bodies.
  • Act as a mandatory reporter to the Department of Title IX/Equal Opportunity knowledge of or receipt of reports of discrimination, discriminatory harassment, hazing, and retaliation from students or other members of the College community.
  • Act as a first responder/assist in medical emergencies.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to perform cheer instruction/choreography.
  • Ability to advise students appropriately about stunting, tumbling and any other gymnastic abilities while maintaining safety.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 
This position is classified as non exempt level position for purposes of the federal wage and hour law with an hourly rate of $20.00 per hour. This position offers base pay plus generous gratuities.
