What We Need:
We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our HNI Workplace Furnishings - Operations team.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform research, design and develop manufacturing processes for production flow, assembly methods and fabrication equipment in accordance with product specifications and quality standards
- Improve manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency
- Identify root cause inaccuracies and recommend/implement process improvements and corrective action
- Assist management in improving and sustaining a system of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control and training
- Perform research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
- Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of buildings and equipment
- Coordinate the manufacturing of new/revised products by establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results
- Design, develop and test and/or source and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
- Perform product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency
- Coordinate and work cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Sales, Finance, customers and members assisting in process and product improvement plans and status
- Participate in projects efficiently and with high-quality expertise in accordance with established deadlines
Education Required:- Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering required
Experience Required:- Level 1:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering field - no applicable experience or less than 3 years of engineering experience
or- In lieu of no degree - a minimum of 5 years of progressive manufacturing experience in a technical/skilled/support role aligned to engineering
- Level 2:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering field - 2 years of progressive HNI engineering experience or advancement through the HNI developmental program or 3 years of external engineering experience
or- In lieu of no degree - a minimum of 6 years of engineering experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Lean manufacturing principles, including RCI, 3P, Value Stream Mapping, problem solving, and statistical analysis
- Strong interpersonal skills with attention to detail
- Demonstrated successful implementation of continuous process improvement programs
- Experience with project development, management, and implementation encompassing start-to-finish planning and execution
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, handle multiple projects and incorporate lean manufacturing principles
- Strong communication skills with ability to motivate and influence others, as well as interact productively members within all levels of the organization and external suppliers and customers
- Preferred experience with CAD (Computer Aided Design)
- Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
- Preferred experience with Oracle, inventory system knowledge
Reporting Relationships:Physical Conditions:- Climbing stairs to access office and attend meetings is required
- The operations environment has extreme fluctuations in temperature, humidity and dust
- Sitting/standing at a work station for up to an entire scheduled day
- Moderate need to move/lift heavy items, up to 40 lbs.
- PPE required for the shop floor of safety shoes, ear plugs and eye protection/safety glasses
