Senior Business Development Manager

Business Development sits at the heart of H+K, one of the world’s leading public relations agency.  We are the central team responsible for new business for the U.S. agency. We are also a core part of the Global team and have regular touch points with parent company, the leading marketing services group, WPP.

We are currently looking for a smart, ambitious, and collaborative Senior Business Development Manager (comparable to SAM/VP level) to join our team. The role will offer you the opportunity to work across a broad range of communications businesses (ranging from technology to consumer to financial services), build partnerships with colleagues across the U.S. and global network and play a central role in our high-octane new business process.


Reporting into the SVP of U.S. Business Development the Senior Business Development Manager plays a key role in driving the new business process forward to working in close partnership with pitch teams. This individual will work across agency sectors and capabilities to facilitate the development of creative, strategic new business proposals and drive the agency’s growth.


  • Assist with the development of new business proposals and pitches across all sectors involving the U.S. markets. From strategy development through, audience mapping through to design and on-the-day support for on-site pitches.      
  • Build and maintain relationships with practice leaders and sector new business directors across the U.S. offices. This includes collaborating with those colleagues to achieve new business objectives.
  • Ensure that leaders are correctly following and understanding the new business process through guidance and management of the pitch process.
  • Liaise with global counterparts to ensure efficiencies and exchange new ideas.



  • 5+ years experience working in an agency, ideally in a new business, marketing or biz dev role
  • An understanding and appreciation of PR, communications and marketing
  • Proven organizational and project management skills
  • Proven team management skills
  • Excellent writing ability
  • An active interest in business and the marketing communications arenas

  • A solutions-focused problem solver with the desire and willingness to turn your hand to a broad range of tasks and clients

  • Personable and good interpersonal skills – able to interact at all levels and with different personalities and keen to build face-to-face relationships with teams across the agency
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritizing skills, with the ability to manage and meet deadlines by ensuring that milestones are met and actions are taken to identify/resolve likely delays so as not to impact delivery
  • Excellent creating writing ability – with the ability to craft impactful narrative from the information at hand and impeccable attention to detail
  • A keen interest and experience in digital communications and traditional/social media with an informed understanding of the current landscape for brands
