Reporting to the Global Employee Relations Director, the Global Employee Relations (ER) Manager will work on optimizing the Heifer Experience for Heifer’s staff. The ER Manager will work with stakeholders on HR policy development and communications and will address staff concerns promptly through a fair and consistent review process. The Manager will also support the development and action plans related to engagement surveys, staff care, DEI & Belonging, and more. The manager will work with the ER Director and others to make Heifer a great place to work.

The Successful Candidate

To succeed in this role, you will have the personality to problem solve and proactively address areas that negatively affect employees’ experience with Heifer. You will have experience reviewing complaints and work with management towards resolution. You will have excellent communication skills and will use internal resources to develop, update, and communicate policies, manuals, and intranet content. You understand global compliance within different labor markets and able to work with the global People Team to conduct audits and take corrective actions.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to HQ and field offices in developing, updating, and communicating HR Manuals, Employee handbooks, HR policies, and procedures. Create a central point for the latest versions of HR material globally.
  • Work with field offices and counsel to review policies and manuals and ensure compliance to applicable labor laws.
  • Manage and constantly update access to employees’ records. Ensure that employees' records are always updated.
  • Support the development and timely application of Heifer’s Performance Development System.
  • Lead and/or support the review of sensitive workplace claims and recommendations for resolution.
  • Participate in the development of department surveys. Support the creation of action plans and follow-up to ensure delivery against plans.
  • Optimize employment experience. Promote fairness through prompt review of staff claims.
  • Coordinate and solicit input to optimize communication of People Department actions, policies, and events.
  • Conduct and analyze exit interviews. Draw lessons learned and communicate them to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support compliance to employees Data Protection laws and policies globally.
  • Support and constantly improve the organization’s Staff Care program to address staff psychosocial and emotional needs.
  • Support the promotion of a culture of respect that celebrates diversity, equity, and meets the organization’s duty of care towards its people.
  • Hold oneself accountable for achieving annual workplans and goals and collaborate with colleagues to help them achieve their goals as well.
  • Invest in oneself professional development. Stay connected with sector forums and national/international Employee Relations/HR forums.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Continued HR education, GPHR, PHR, or SHRM CP certified.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Generalist or Employee Relations Human Resources experience within a global for-profit or INGOs sector.
  • Experience supporting all stages of the employment life cycle from onboarding to offboarding.
  • Experience with writing and communicating employment-related policy.
  • Extensive experience managing and resolving employment-related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • High influencing and conflict resolution skills
  • Technical mindset and passion for the latest innovations in technology
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Must be comfortable operating and working with teams within a matrix structure.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with strong verbal and written communication skills. English language fluency is required.
  • Self-motivated, agile, and detail-oriented leader with exceptional organizational, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
