ROLE FUNCTION
As part of the Global Communications Team, the Internal Communications Specialist will support the execution of the global internal communications strategy as established by the Senior Internal Communications Manager. The Specialist will also assist with cross-departmental coordination for organizational transformation internal communications and fulfill coordinative duties for cross-regional internal communications information sharing and collaborations.
The role will also be responsible for creating, editing and delivering compelling internal-facing messaging and media content that engages employees and strengthens Heifer’s brand, strategy, culture and values. This position will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure all internal communication is clear, consistent, and aligned with Heifer’s brand, goals and values. This role will implement communication strategies and plans in support of organization-wide initiatives. Support the coordination and execution of events and initiatives, as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Internal Communications (20%)
- Work with organizational stakeholders across the organization to create, develop and deliver internal communications content (including but not limited to email updates, newsletters, and presentations) to ensure messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with the company’s goals and values.
- Promote effective communication among departments and teams.
- Support cross-departmental organizational transformation internal communications
- Support cross-regional internal communications
- Write and edit messaging for all Heifer communication channels, as required.
- Develop and produce videos for internal and external use.
- Design graphics for use in messaging, intranet (Corral) and presentations.
- Assist Senior Internal Comms Manager with sharing and coordinating organizational transformation communications
- Support internal comms onboarding activities across regions as regional internal comms functions develop.
Intranet Support/ Corral (20%)
- Support development and maintenance of Heifer’s intranet with strong focus on user experience to increase engagement rates.
- Support the upkeep of core organizational assets in the intranet, as needed.
- Create, develop and update intranet content and webpages in collaboration with associated teams.
- Host quarterly Corral Tours to assist in onboarding new hires to Heifer’s intranet and resources available within the system.
Employee Initiatives (20%)
- Oversee Monthly Colleague Matchup internal initiative
- Manage Communications Community of Practice (C-CoP)
- Manage Monthly Colleague Matchup members list, send monthly matches via email, and conduct annual pulse survey to gauge effectiveness of the initiative.
- Coordinate with members of the Communications Community of Practice (C-CoP) to plan, coordinate and facilitate quarterly meetings and agenda topics.
Internal Events (10%)
- Support the coordination, planning and execution of virtual and in-person events, as needed.
- Coordinate and facilitate internal meetings (e.g. Town Halls, Priority Pop-Ups, Community Roundtables), as needed.
Other work-related duties as assigned (10%)
- Develop approaches to increase employee engagement and online collaboration organization wide.
- Collaborate with Heifer staff in communication positions to maximize impact of Heifer’s messaging.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree plus three years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or related field.
- Experience with project management
Preferred Requirements:
- Basic graphic design and video production skills in Photoshop, InDesign, PlayPlay, Adobe. Premiere and other publishing and video creation software.
- Fluency in other languages strongly preferred.
Most Critical Proficiencies:
- Knowledge of internal communications competencies and best practices
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Strong project management skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience with content creation and delivery, including email, newsletters, intranet content, videos, and presentations
- Excellent analytical abilities to communicate complex ideas into simple, concrete messaging.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively across diverse teams
- Proven ability to focus and deliver high-quality products in the midst of constant change.
- Experience managing and maintaining internal communication tools is a plus (internal email software, intranet, etc.)
- Knowledge of the nonprofit sector and the context to which nonprofit organizations operate.

Essential Job Functions and Physical Demands:
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- May require constant sitting; working at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds (14 kilograms) floor to waist.

- Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally and domestically as needed.

Salary Information:
The expected base salary range for this position is $51,817 - $60,000 annually. Placement within the range will be based on the experience and competency level of the candidate. Writing samples, graphic design and video creation samples or portfolio are required for this position. This is an internal position reporting to the Senior Internal Communications Manager.
