Description

Hanon Systems, a global supplier of innovative automotive thermal and energy management solutions, is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist for their Belleville, Ontario Location. 

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will provide Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and technical and administrative support for and on the behalf of the Plant/or Plants assigned.  

Responsible for supporting the Plant Manager in the provision of a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. Work to achieve continuous improvement in EH&S and to also achieve a high level of EH&S awareness by ensuring that risks in the workplace are properly controlled and that impacts on the environment are minimized. Ensure Operations are aware of developments in the Federal, Provincial, local and Corporate requirements and execute all EH&S disciplines in full compliance of current and all future requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

•    University Degree or College Diploma, in safety and environmental studies 
•    Sound knowledge of Ontario safety, environmental regulations, codes, legislative requirements relating to OSHA, CSA, WSIA, and the NIOSH
•    Minimum 5 years working experience in manufacturing environment in a safety capacity
•    Demonstrated problem solving abilities
•    Strong communication skills both written and oral
•    Familiar with IATF16949 and ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards
•    Understanding of the principles and application of ergonomics
•    Experience in adult education and presentation/training skills
•    Ability to work in a team environment and individually

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist are detailed below, but not limited to the following:
•    Promote and drive the EH&S mind-set and culture at the Belleville Plants
•    Monitor and maintain compliance to all applicable Federal, Provincial, local and other related EH&S requirements.
•    Ensure all new equipment has met the PHSR requirements; responsible to maintain all PHSR documents. 
•    Liaise with engineering and maintenance to ensure safety and ergonomic compliance and improvement on all new and existing equipment.
•    Initiate and review all accidents/incidents and near misses.  Ensure that proper preventative measures are in place. Provides recommendations and follow up as required and provide leadership in corrective action.
•    Prepare, maintain, and report on Monthly EH&S KPI‘s per requirements.
•    Assist and participate in the EH&S Early Alert 8D process; Monitor status to maintain completion within assigned due dates.
•    Plan and participate in regular JHSC and Environmental committee meetings; maintain meeting records
•    Prepare and deliver EH&S related employee notifications and communications as needed.
•    Monitor First Aid Logs and associated reporting and recordkeeping.
•    Lead regular planned Plant EH&S walks with the Plant Management Team.
•    Monitor and maintain the plant EH&S Correction Action Report (EH&S CAR); drive completion of EH&S CAR activities within assigned due dates.
•    Coordinate, schedule and/or administer EH&S training needs per the EHS Training Calendar and maintain EH&S training records.
•    Review and authorize all incoming Hazardous Materials. 
•    Ensure WHIMIS 2015 compliance.
•    Review and authorize all Hazardous Energy Control (LOTO) task specific procedures for plant equipment and machinery
•    Maintain all ergonomic assessment information and work with the engineering and manufacturing departments to ensure ergonomic assessments and action items are in place.
•    Maintain all Physical Demands analysis and hazard assessments.  
•    Coordinate noise measurements and audits
•    Maintains the spill response plan, evacuation and emergency response plans
•    Schedule all annual hygiene testing as required.
•    Coordinate all annually required testing and monitoring such as storm, sanitary, waste generators and environmental compliance approvals (ESDM, NPRI, AAR).
•    Participation and coordination of plant EH&S activities as determined by and necessary for the continued maintenance of the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Certification
