Job Description
This candidate is responsible for managing, coordinating and providing in early phase best cost calculations (costed BOM) for different manufacturing technologies (purchase parts & tooling) considering functionality and quality requirements, project timing and in close collaboration with the program team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support identifying and implementing part and tool cost reduction to enable the organization to award business at the right cost / price
- Drive and coordinate cost reduction potentials (e.g. with VA/VE, Design-to-cost techniques) in existing business from the idea respective pre-calculation until implementation in close collaboration with Purchasing, Engineering and Program Management.
- Support Purchasing departments with fact-based negotiations and detailed cost-break-down analysis to reduce quotation prices and implement cost reduction opportunities
- Benchmarking, teardown and gap-analysis of competitor products
- Support Advanced Engineering with manufacturability and cost estimation in innovation technology projects/next generation projects
- Verify cost effecting design changes
- Evaluation of “Make or Buy” decisions
- Ensure efficiency (e.g. KPI tracking, standardization) and improve internal transparency of knowledge share, calculations methods and supplier cost-audit results
- Train internal customers in cost engineering methods and processes to create understanding and role as a business partner
- Participation in sourcing events, technical reviews and potential supplier visits
Years of Experience
- Minimum 3 years of work experience preferred in automotive or automotive supplier industry in related fields
Education and Experience
- Master Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering with a strong commercial or economics background
- Cost Engineering Experience and/or Management experience required
Desired Competencies, Experience, & Qualifications
- Significant experience working cross-functionally in an international corporate environment
- Experience with Powertrain components
- Excellent communication, driving for results and negotiation skills
- Ability to work self-directed at a fast pace dealing with multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proficiency with cost calculation & office software
- Fluent German and English language skills
