Job Description and Performance Standards

Reports To: Mechanical Services Manager
Shift: 7:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday
Status: Full Time
Responsible for design, inspections, repairs, installations, modifications, and maintaining electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment to assure safety for patients and associates. Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day as available. Work in both indoor and outdoor environments some areas are hot and noisy. Inclement weather can be a factor. Frequently encounters hazards associated with electrical repairs, exposure to hazardous material, and hot working conditions. May be required to supervise and coordinates the work of employees who repair and maintain electrical systems and equipment. May be involved in installation of equipment, new construction or modification of existing properties. Requires an Associate Degree or Equivalent trade school in electrically related field of work considered, minimum Journeyman Electrician License. May be required to meet other certifications in field. Requires at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Ensures compliance to all OSHA, JCAHO, ADA, local, state, and federal regulations governing healthcare organizations are adhered too during the installation of new real property medical and industrial plant equipment and service. Must be able to assess the assigned task and turn in the appreciate documentation for ordering supplies associated with assigned task. Must posses a willingness to learn Hamilton Medical Center emergency generators and report to work during scheduled hours to perform generator test as needed.
Education: Associate Degree or Equivalent trade school in electrically related field of work considered. Experience in Healthcare Electrical construction Techniques a plus.
Licensure: Minimum Journeyman Electrician License.
Experience: Experience in healthcare electrical repairs with supervisory experience or supervisory ability. Minimum Journeyman level experience preferred. Equivalent trade school in electrically related field of work considered. Experience in Healthcare Electrical construction techniques a plus.
Skills: Ability and basic knowledge in the operation of hand tools (grinder, sander, drill motor, rivet gun, reciprocating saw, hammer, tape measure, pipe threader, pipe bender, etc.) for tasks of assembly or disassembly. Familiarity with primary electrical tasks (conduit installation, junction box installation, wire pulling installation, terminal block and final wire end terminations) required.
Thorough knowledge of electrical systems and theory. Good oral and written communication skills, problem solving and organizational ability required. Must be self-motivated and capable of functioning independently and motivating others. Capable of developing positive and functional relationships with department and hospital staff. Possess a large degree of self-confidence, decisive nature and the ability to function in a self-motivated and independent manner. Must be familiar with electrical building principles, equipment installation requirements, building codes, JCAHO, OSHA, ADA, local, state, and federal regulatory agencies requirement for healthcare organization. Must be able to work with highly complex electrical and electronic systems. Must possess accurate color vision. Requires ability to work from blueprints, schematics, and other documents depicting wiring diagrams.
Works in a typical hospital environment and a diverse engineering environment. Requires a flexible work schedule, weekend, and on-call work required. Moderate amounts of physical effort required including lifting, pushing, pulling, stopping and walking. Work is mostly inside but will involve outside work at times. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Assistance to other disciplines may be required.
Ability to read, understand, and work from detailed blueprints required.
Able to understand instructions and carry out tasks as required by supervision.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs., in repeated bending and stooping motions.
Able to keep work area clean.
Describe activities performed daily and account for them in the current timekeeping system.
Capable of using a Palms Work Order System.
