Job Description and Performance Standards

 

Title:  Section / Shift Supervisor   554026009

Department:  Laboratory

Reports To:  Director, Laboratory Services

Shift: Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30pm, and every 4th weekend

Status: Full Time

JOB SUMMARY

Performs a wide variety of complex clinical laboratory tests and procedures according to established standards; maintains and calibrates highly scientific equipment; provides direction to others in work setting and ensures compliance with all applicable standards established by regulatory agencies.  Provides teaching and in-services to students and other personnel.  Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.   Must demonstrate knowledge of age dependent expected values and access data reflective of the patients' current status in relation to their age specific needs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Technologist or Technician (for technical supervisors) – High School Diploma for clerical.

Licensure:  Certified ASCP or equivalent (technical) Must maintain certification throughout employment of Hamilton Medical Center.  Must meet Georgia State Laws of licensure of clinical laboratories.

Experience:  Familiar with all aspects of their respective areas.

Skills:  Exhibit managerial and interpersonal skills.  Technically competent (technical).  Ability to obtain and interpret pertinent information in terms of the patients’ needs that are age appropriate.  Ability to select proper instrumentation / supplies appropriate for age group of patient served. 
 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposed to the hazards normally associated with a clinical laboratory setting, such as, exposure to disease-bearing specimens, toxic chemicals and hazardous wastes.  Walking, standing, sitting, bending, and stooping required.  Must work under stress of time constraints and heavy workload demands.  Subject to call back as needed.
