Job Description and Performance Standards

Shift: 7:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday
Status: Full Time
Leads in the performance of Surgery Inventory Control functions which includes a wide variety of duties. Maintains appropriate inventory levels and makes recommendations for the replenishment of all OR supplies. This position is responsible for resolving any inventory errors or discrepancies that occur. Submits and provides explanations for inventory adjustments and variances to the Materials Director. Coordinates and performs physical inventory at least twice annually or as directed. Receives and stocks supplies for OR storeroom, organizes and maintains OR storeroom. Maintains inventory accuracy for OR storeroom by binning and picking merchandise utilizing the inventory management system. Completes stock audits, works inventory exceptions and corrects stock errors. Maintains inventory of consignment items. Communicates with OR staff regarding requisitions for supply items and works to resolve any delivery issues. Identifies poor inventory practices and low in-stock levels. Maintains organization and cleanliness in the OR storeroom area. Maintains knowledge of OR protocols. Coordinates new product and equipment evaluations as requested by Surgery Director. Coordinates the repair of surgical equipment; arranges for loaner equipment as needed. Maintains equipment repair tracking system to optimize equipment repair warranty periods and reduce unnecessary repairs and maintains surgical scope and equipment inventory. Performs all duties and maintains all standards in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
Education: High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Certified Surgical Tech (CST) Preferred
Experience: Three or more years of experience as Certified Surgical Tech or three years of materials management experience required with general knowledge of surgical equipment and supplies preferred.
Skills: Knowledge of cost-effective procurement, inventory and stockroom practices. Requires excellent communication and analytical skills. Acquire and maintain knowledge of MMIS computer system, Aperek, and Microsoft Outlook. Previous experience with ORMIS surgery system preferred. Requires the ability to prioritize and complete assignments in a timely manner. The ability to work under pressure and attention to detail. Requires the ability to identify potential inventory problems in advance and preempt or minimize them. Demonstrates knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures of inventory control and supply logistics. Ability to use judgment to plan and accomplish departmental goals and the ability to set work priorities. Ability to handle a variety of complex clerical tasks as part of the inventory control function. Ability to lead, communicate and influence others to accomplish department goals and objectives.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Storeroom/Office setting and operating room environment which must be kept clean, secured and organized at all times. Capacity to withstand prolonged hours and stress. Must be able to lift and move boxes of supplies.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT
Office setting and surgical storeroom environment. Moderate amount of walking and standing with bending, reaching and lifting of supplies and equipment ranging in weight from 25-50lbs. Moderate amount of stress related to delivery deadlines. Frequent job interruptions due to customer request. Mental effort includes the use of MMIS system and inventory analysis.
