Job Description and Performance Standards

Department: Hamilton Health Care System
Reports To: Deputy General Counsel / Executive Director, Enterprise Risk Management
Shift: 8:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday
Status: Full Time
Responsible for HHCS and Affiliates’ risk management activities, which include coordinating insurance coverage and risk financing, managing claims and System-wide performance improvement in coordination with Affiliate risk management liaisons, administering the Risk Management Program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management educational programs, and facilitating compliance with the Joint Commission’s risk management standards, all with the objective of controlling and minimizing loss to protect the assets of HHCS. Assists in the coordination of all liability claims, litigation, mediations, and settlement disputes of legal risks. Supervises Risk Management Coordinator in the administration of the Risk Management Program.
Education: Undergraduate degree required. Undergraduate degree in health-related field preferred. Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school preferred. Bachelor of Science in Nursing a plus.
Licensure: If candidate has Juris Doctorate degree, Georgia Bar License required. If candidate has Nursing degree, RN license required.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in health care required with risk management, insurance, and litigation experience strongly preferred.
Skills: Management and communication skills required. Must be able to handle high degree of detail and be able to manage a number of ongoing projects at the same time. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and associates within HHCS. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with System staff, business, industry, community, and other professional groups. Ability to work with all levels of staff, using tact and diplomacy and a positive attitude to facilitate successful partnerships. Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to express ideas logically, cogently, and persuasively both orally and in writing.
A highly motivated self-starter who sets priorities and can accomplish objectives independently. A mature individual with a strong sense of organization and the ability to develop long-term plans while maintaining control over current projects.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in a typical office environment and moves throughout the System and facilities subject to the hazards of that environment. Requires flexible schedule to meet deadlines.
Physical and Mental Effort: Requires standing, walking, and extensive sitting. Requires hearing and vision corrected to normal range. Requires working under sometimes stressful conditions and subject to working irregular hours including overtime and weekends.
