Title: Director, Patient Access and Pre-Arrival

Department: Central Business Office

Reports To: Executive Director, Patient Business Services

Shift: Monday - Friday 8-5

Status: Full Time

 

JOB SUMMARY

Provides leadership and oversight of operations and support functions for scheduling and patient access, ensuring practices and processes reflect HHCS’ mission, vision, values and strategies.  Directly oversees scheduling, pre-certification and pre-registration staff members and is responsible for ensuring their work output is satisfactory and their concerns are resolved.  Directly oversees Patient Access Manager and all related functions for patient access, including Medicaid eligibility. Oversees department operations to ensure high levels of physician and patient satisfaction, optimal billing and reimbursement.  Communicates with physician offices and insurance carriers to obtain approvals, prior to patient arrival date, test or procedure.  Performs duties to promote a BEST PLACE to work culture and positive work environment and to ensure adherence to policy, procedure and regulations; a champion for improving Patient Satisfaction and a leader for Service Excellence.  Performs back-up duties in scheduling and pre-registration and assists in the development of policy and/or procedure updates, as needed. Maintains in-depth knowledge of the Cerner Scheduling and all systems used in patient access and pre-arrival functions.   Provides on call week end support to staff members for patient access, scheduling and pre-registration. Assists in all hiring and related personnel decisions.  Ability to make an independent decision, free from immediate direction or supervision, in interpreting, formulating and or implementing management policies or operating practices.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor’s degree required.

Licensure: N/A

Experience:  Five to seven  years of’ experience in hospital facility; having experience working with health care insurance carriers.                                 

Skills: Online scheduling system. Have extensive knowledge of admitting and registration as well as pre-certification and billing processes.  Ability to follow oral and written instructions.  Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and employees within the organization.  Ability to coordinate activities and manage employees.  Ability to work with physician offices to enhance current processes.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Average office environment with normal noise levels.    Worker must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department without effecting departmental flow.  Worker must adjust to performing routine, repetitive tasks under specific supervision.
