Job Description and Performance Standards

Department: Judd Cancer Treatment Center
Reports To: Director, Judd Cancer Treatment Center
Shift: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Status: Full Time
The Radiation Oncology Dosimetrist is responsible for and implementation and approval of the procedure to be followed by the radiation therapy staff in delivery of the prescribed dose. The dosimetrist will participate in the treatment planning of patients contributing to the efficient operation of the department and promoting Hamilton Medical Center’s philosophy ensuring quality and continuity of patient care. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and assess data reflective of the patients current status in relation to their age specific needs.
Education: Must be graduate of committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation Radiologic Technology Program. BS degree in health related field, Radiology (RT), Radiation Therapy (RTT)
Certification: ARRT Certification and Certification in Medical Dosimetry (CMD) required.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years experience as a clinical radiation therapist. Extensive on the job training.
Skills: Expert knowledge in treatment planning computer systems and Radiation dosimetry. Knowledge in operation of linear accelerators, radiation safety and dose monitoring equipment. Ability to operate therapeutic equipment. Ability to obtain, interpret and communicate information in terms of the patients needs to the radiation therapist and radiation oncologist as appropriate.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Worker must adjust to performing routine, repetitive tasks under specific supervision. Worker will be performing in a radiation area.Worker is required to utilize treatment planning computer, linear accelerator and simulator as required. Work is moderate. Extensive amounts of mental effort are required. Worker must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting flow.
