Job Description and Performance Standards
Title: Lactation Consultant
Reports To: Director, Women Services
Shift: 8:00am-5:00pm / Monday-Friday
The Lactation Consultant is skilled in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to assist the breastfeeding mother to attain her individual goals. The Lactation Consultant functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team as a consultant, educator, and mentor to nurses, healthcare professionals and patients.
Education: Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
Licensure: Current RN Licensure in the State of Georgia or current temporary permit. BLS CPR required
Certification: Current certification by the International board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
Experience: Three years of nursing experience as a Registered Staff Nurse in the OB area.
Skills: Nursing skills as defined in the Law Governing the Practice of Nursing in Georgia. Possesses and demonstrates the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to facilitate breastfeeding. Skilled in the art of human relations, problem-solving and conflict resolution.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in typical perinatal setting with neonate, adolescent and adult patients and families who are experiencing a wide range of maternal and infant care needs. Required to work flexible schedule including weekends. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
