JOB SUMMARY
Provides general clerical support to a specific nursing unit including receptionist duties; transcription and processing of physicians’ orders; and coordination of unit communications with other hospital departments. The Patient Care Clerk is the Secretary to the nursing staff. Promotes positive relations with nursing staff, managers, physicians, outside agencies and the public. This position practices the Service Excellence philosophy of Hamilton Healthcare Systems.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School graduate or certified equivalent.
Licensure: Certified Health Unit Coordinator is preferred but not required.
Experience: Unit Secretary, Medical Secretary or Nursing Assistant preferred.
Skills: PC Data Entry and medical terminology preferred.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in a typical acute health care setting with pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients experiencing a wide range of medical and/or surgical problems. Required to work a flexible schedule including weekends. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires a moderate amount of sitting at a computer workstation. May requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Patient Care Clerks must possess the ability to concentrate on details at a computer workstation or written material including physicians’ orders in the midst of other activities and other interruptions. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
