SUMMARY:   
  
Grand Central Publishing is seeking a highly motivated Publicity Assistant to support the Senior Director of Publicity and VP, Executive Director of Publicity & Marketing. Our ideal candidate will have a strong interest in a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction as well as the media world, excellent written and verbal communication skills, superb time management and prioritization skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and strong attention to detail.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
  • Providing general administrative support, including mailings, processing invoices, billings, ordering supplies, managing media subscriptions and more
  • Drafting press materials, including press releases, pitch and galley letters, quote sheets, talking points, Q&As
  • Researching media contacts and maintaining media/bookseller lists.
  • Liaising with bookstores, literary festivals, and other venues to organize author events.
  • Coordinating travel and other arrangements for author tours and creating detailed schedules for campaigns.
  • Maintaining media hits, press contacts, and detailed logs of book campaigns in an internal database system.
  • Communicating with authors, agents, and media contacts, as well as with colleagues in editorial, marketing, art and sales
  • Attending book events and accompanying authors to media interviews.
  • Maintaining publicity budgets and submit expenses for the department
  • Pitching and securing national, regional and local media, as necessary
  • Coordinating seasonal planning materials with the publishing team
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:  
  • Strong interest in publicity and book publishing
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Active working knowledge of social media and an interest in following book trends is a plus

The compensation range for this position is $47,500. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
