Description

Hachette Book Group is seeking a Director of Publishing Operations to manage and facilitate the operational efficiency of our Title Management database and other related systems. This position will work closely across publishing divisions and shared services departments to coordinate standardization, identify best practices, develop training resources, and help build the framework to ensure data accuracy and integrity. This full-time professional will be focused holistically on how our 600+ publishing division staff interact with HBG’s systems, processes, and related policies.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate the aggregation, rationalization, prioritization, and clear articulation of needs across the publishing divisions
  • Work closely with each publishing division to fully understand their use of the system, pain points, learning gaps, workarounds, and the reasons behind the workarounds
  • Initial focus would be on Editorial functions, expanding to include Marketing, Publicity, and Art/Design over time
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training solutions and knowledge sharing across the Publishing divisions
  • Identify training and documentation needs and create training solutions (i.e., live classes, online tools, cheat sheets/checklists to help enhance ease of use of our systems and processes
  • Ensure that training materials are systematically updated as processes and functionality change over time
  • Proactively facilitate training sessions and other modes of learning for new and existing users that respond to knowledge gaps
  • Help divisions document and organize their operating procedures, ensuring access
  • Coordinate with business leaders to ensure appropriate level of Business Owner and Superuser staffing is maintained in each division, and that Superusers are trained and provided necessary support
  • Work across the divisions to create and implement a clear vision for how our teams use HBGs tools, processes, and policies universally across 17 publishing divisions
  • Identify TM customizations that would streamline the business across divisions/functions
  • Mediate across divisions where customization for one division results in confusion to others.
  • Coordinate with Business Owners to identify opportunities to simplify and standardize workflows, features, and operating procedures across HBG with an eye towards efficiency
  • Establish and lead additional appropriate collaboration structures and forums to help achieve the above goals.
  • Serve on the TM Governance Board to facilitate the above

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Product Management, Project Management or Business Analyst experience 
  • Proven written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, as well as training skills 
  • Ability to present ideas in business-and user-friendly language 
  • Demonstrated experience bringing a continuous improvement mindset and prioritizing challenges to be addressed at any given point in time and driving their resolution
  • Ability to help foster and execute in team-oriented, open, and collaborative environment 
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member 
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment 
  • Strong customer service orientation 
  • Knowledge of Firebrand’s Title Management System and/or Crystal reports a plus
  • Knowledge of trade publishing a plus
