Jessica Kingsley Publishers, an award-winning imprint of Hachette with a mission of social change, seeks a Marketing Associate to help drive the growth of book and brand visibility through trade, library, school, and direct-to-consumer marketing. The ideal candidate has experience with marketing processes, including planning to implementation of direct mail, email, and social media campaigns; feeding back campaign results against sales performance; media relationship development; design experience, including the creation of ads, tri-folds, and flyers/leaflets; and working with authors and/or clients to maximize results; and is comfortable working in a small office with a dedicated team of publishing professionals. The Marketing Executive is responsible for multiple subject areas on our publishing list, including Health Professions, Arts Therapies, Health and Social Care, Dementia, Mental Health and Counseling, Bereavement, and Parenting (which includes Adoption and Fostering).

In addition, this position is responsible for the following:

  • Executes marketing plans for all assigned categories in the US market, follows up on all marketing and publicity leads, and supports authors in the promotion of the author platform and book sales
  • Conducts market research and analyzes market trends to ensure key audiences are aware of the company’s books and brand
  • Augments sales department activities with targeted marketing campaigns and/or initiatives
  • Coordinates all media outreach and publicity for the company’s books and brand within the US
  • Composes and posts promotional content on company social media accounts (i.e. reviews, author activities, awards, and news)
  • Works with and supports marketing executives in the London office in organizing various projects, executing promotional campaigns, managing author relations, etc.
  • Oversees trade publicity relationships with Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, School Library Journal, Booklist, and others
  • Creates list-specific print and digital ads, catalogs, tri-folds, flyers, and leaflets for book and author promotion
  • Designs and executes our course adoption and higher ed book campaigns

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • 1-3 years of digital marketing experience, preferably in the book, library, and/or education marketplace, is ideal
  • Completion of a four-year degree (or equivalent)
  • Experience with InDesign and Adobe creative suite, and experience with databases and direct marketing customer relationship management (CRM) technology
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
