Social Media Associate, James Patterson Publishing Program

SUMMARY:
 
The Social Media Associate will support the James Patterson publishing program by creating, coordinating, and executing dynamic social media and digital content. This role will focus on driving reader engagement, strengthening brand awareness, and supporting key marketing initiatives across Patterson’s extensive frontlist and backlist. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, data-driven, and comfortable working across multiple platforms, including emerging channels. 

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Social Media Content Creation: Write and coordinate engaging, effective posts across major social media platforms—including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Substack, and other email platforms—ensuring content aligns with Patterson brand voice and campaign goals.
  • Community Engagement: Manage and engage the Patterson Street Team (155+ members), coordinating advance copies and reviews, encouraging follow-up, cross-posting, and fostering an active reader community.
  • Campaign Execution: Assist in the execution of social media and digital campaigns for Patterson frontlist and key backlist titles in partnership with marketing, publicity, and sales teams.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Track and analyze campaign and content performance data across platforms, providing actionable insights to inform future strategy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the James Patterson publishing team and other stakeholders to support high-profile book launches and ongoing brand initiatives.
  • Trend Monitoring: Stay current on social media and digital trends, recommending new opportunities for audience growth and engagement. 
  • Administrative Support: Provide general support to Director of Social Media, including preparing decks/reports, coordinating approvals, and scheduling posts.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • 1–2 years of experience in social media, marketing, or digital communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to write engaging, on-brand content tailored for different social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of social media management and analytics tools
  • Familiarity with Canva, Photoshop, general video editing and knowledge of other creative tools preferred. 
  • Experience managing online communities or influencer/reader groups is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • A proactive team player who can collaborate effectively across departments while also working independently.
  • Enthusiasm for books, storytelling, and engaging with readers online.

The compensation for this position is $57,000-$62,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
