SUMMARY:
Hachette Book Group’s Orbit division seeks an energetic and enthusiastic Associate Publicist to join our publicity department, reporting to the Publicity Director. The Associate Publicist will independently plan and execute publicity campaigns for select titles, while also supporting departmental publicity programs.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assisting the Publicity Director in developing creative, effective publicity campaigns for science fiction and fantasy titles, including for our digital Orbit Works imprint
  • Coordinating with marketing and editorial departments to maximize effectiveness of campaigns
  • Building and developing relationships with media contacts, especially in nontraditional/digital media and among key genre influencers
  • Creating compelling written materials to effectively pitch our books to a variety of audiences
  • Contributing to division-wide efforts such as virtual events, internal and external publicity communications, maintaining and updating information systems
  • Representing the division at select trade events and conventions
  • Some general administrative duties, such as mailings and data entry
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • 1-3 years experience in book publishing, publicity, marketing, journalism, or related field; or transferable skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, prioritize effectively, and consistently follow through
  • Familiarity with and enthusiasm for the science fiction and fantasy genre
  • Knowledge of social media tools and/or the e-book publishing marketplace preferred

The compensation range for this position is $53,200. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
