SUMMARY:

The Field Sales Representative will be responsible for selling Hachette Book Group and Client publisher titles to a regional sales territory comprised of predominantly independent bookstores in the southeastern US.

The role of the Hachette Book Group Field sales representative is crucial to our success in the Field Sales Channel.  The Sales Rep maintains the primary relationship with our independent bookstore accountsOur goal is to have each rep become their accounts’ point of contact for all things Hachette, forging relationships based on trust, open and timely communication, and a strong knowledge of our lists and processes.

Location: This role will be based in the southeastern states and report to the Field Sales Director.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with established accounts and develop new accounts within the territory and maintain current and accurate account profiles.
  • Present, sell, and place orders for frontlist titles during seasonal sales appointments.  Appointments will be in person with some via phone, as needed.
  • Keep accounts informed about changes to the list, special offers and publicity, assist accounts with promotions and coop advertising, and other efforts to provide excellent service to booksellers.
  • Responsible for regular sales reporting, and feedback on titles, promotions and sales.
  • Responsible for achieving individual and company budget goals
  • Act on behalf of accounts with other internal departments, such as Marketing, Publicity, Customer Financial Services, etc., while maintaining company policies. 
  • Collaborate with the other field and telephone sales colleagues on projects as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a deep knowledge of the breadth of the Hachette catalog and stay abreast of current publishing trends
  • Conduct regular backlist reviews for stores in your territory, with an emphasis on maximizing sales growth.
  • Develop account-specific promotional and marketing plans to support publisher programs and priority titles.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and share ideas and opportunities that will help grow our business.  Meeting attendance will be both virtual and in person.
  • Attend regional trade shows, Rep Pick nights in your territory, occasional author events, and other industry events as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • At least 6 years of proven sales experience, with a strong background in trade publishing, bookselling, or a related field.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, ability to exercise good judgment, and excellent interpersonal skills in all aspects of business.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently, and work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work and demonstrate good follow up and follow through.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to participate as a team member within the sales department and the company.
  • Comfortable with extensive car and air travel and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Enthusiasm for books and reading is a must.
  • PC skills using Microsoft Word and Excel, and familiarity with Edelweiss are required.

The compensation range for this position is $62,000-$72,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
