Investment Research Analyst

 

Job Overview:

The Investment Research Analyst will support the investment team by conducting in-depth financial, business, strategic and competitive analysis and producing objective research on public, private and investment companies. They will build financial models, assess management teams and industry dynamics, support due diligence, and help develop a structured, data-driven research process. Working closely with the Director of Research and Investments, they will deliver insights that inform investment decisions across a range of sectors.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research and financial analysis of companies targeted for investment and/or acquisition.
  • Identify, research and interpret the investment activity of successful investment firms to identify potential signals or strategic trends.
  • Build and maintain financial models to assess historical performance and future projections.
  • Perform valuation analysis within assigned industries, sectors, or asset classes.
  • Assess management team effectiveness and key incentives of business strategy.
  • Monitor market trends, other investment leaders, industry developments, and investor relations and activity that impact target companies.
  • Review financial statements, regulatory filings, and other public disclosures to extract relevant insights.
  • Attend quarterly calls and monitor communications with management teams and key stakeholders (within reason, given time zone differences).
  • Produce clear, structured, and objective equity research reports to support an unbiased investment process.
  • Ensure research findings are well-documented and supported by data.
  • Expertise in use of research and investigative tools and interviews to garner insights data and strategies.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, accounting, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification preferred but not mandatory.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) qualifications will be highly advantageous.
  • Research and investigation experience and training.
  • 5-8 years of experience in investment research, equity analysis, financial modelling, investment banking, corporate finance, due diligence or investigative research.

 

Skills

  • Experience analyzing financial statements, earnings reports, and regulatory filings.
  • Experience with global equity analysis, particularly US stocks preferred.
  • Strong financial modelling and valuation skills.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in conducting due diligence interviews and research.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage complexity.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of research tasks.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly.
  • Commitment to objective, unbiased research without personal investment recommendations.
  • Curiosity, ethics, and intellectual rigor in research.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of wearing task specific personal protective equipment which may include dust mask, air purifying respirator (i.e., half and/or full faced), safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection.
  • Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs
  • Ability to stand, sit, and/or walk for extended periods.

 

Location:

The candidate will work from GVW Group’s offices in Durbanville, with the possibility to relocate to Chicago, Illinois or Miami, Florida, USA, if required after 1 year.

Travel requirements:

International travel is infrequent but may be required from time to time.
