As Parts Product Manager – Alternative Sourcing you are the face and voice of the company, representing Autocar Parts, GVW Truck Parts and JIT Truck parts and providing a Best In Class customer experience in all interactions.  This position works with sales, supply chain, marketing, and customer service to find alternative parts and solutions for our customers as well as provide these solutions for competitive equipment.

Ability to use computer, trouble shoot with customers, search websites, develop competitive cross references and alternative solutions, and secondary sources for both our Autocar Truck owning customers and our competitive equipment customers. The ideal candidate needs to be a problem solver who is process driven at determining the correct solution for the customer AND close out customer orders that are stuck in backlog.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Main Focus – help close out sales orders, with substitute options, when suppliers cannot ship parts
  • Determine with high degree of confidence product compatibility for cross reference opportunities, using available resources (IE, Suppliers, Truck Engineering, own research)
  • Present data to support cross to customers to gain their agreement for the recommended change
  • Work within the Marketing and Sales team to highlight potential suppliers for future product additions
  • Positively interact with customers, marketing, supply chain, vendors/suppliers via phone and/or e-mail; proactively communicating both verbally and in writing as needed
  • Work the “Backlog Report”, specifically identify alternative solutions/sources for obtaining a part or an exact substitute
  • Create marketing opportunities with the newly created parts cross references (i.e., what other machines are these parts used on – who can we cross sell to)
  • Troubleshoot and identify parts required, alternative sources, by working with Service, Engineering, and Sourcing/Supply Chain
  • Locate parts from alternative vendors when not available thru primary vendors, or in inventory (parts inventory, E&O, or plant inventory)
  • Ability to think outside the box for creative solutions when parts are not readily available
  • Communicate with Parts, distribution centers, suppliers, supply chain, marketing, sales, and customers

  • Education and/or Experience -Advanced degree or equivalent work experience required. Minimum of 5 years Class 8 related experience, class 6-8, and last mile delivery van experience.  Past customer service experience. 
  • Language Skills -Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, suppliers, and employees of the organization.
  • Reasoning Ability-Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills A thorough working knowledge of:

MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
