Your Mission

The role of a Director of Tax Strategy and Operations is centered on overseeing all aspects of corporate and shareholder tax compliance and planning. This role entails the review of federal and state tax returns before submission, conducting in-depth tax research, and offering tax planning and execution with in-depth knowledge and experience of tax laws and regulations, you will play a crucial role in providing expert ta approaches and strategies and guidance to our organization and structure within the group of companies and ensuring our business operations are tax-efficient, compliant, and optimized.

primary Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance and management of tax matters pertaining to our organization and affiliated companies and shareholders across various sectors, including manufacturing, real estate, government contracts and international affiliate transactions.
  • Evaluate financial structures within these sectors and implement tax-efficient strategies and compliance solutions, including identifying on state Nexus establishment based on physical presence or Economic activity.
  • Collaborate with our financial team to formulate comprehensive tax plans that minimize tax

liabilities while ensuring legal compliance. For both corporate entities and single tax entities and shareholders

  • Stay informed about changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact our operations individual shareholders and adjust our strategies accordingly.
  • Conduct thorough research on complex tax issues related to our diverse business sectors shareholder interests and offer well-informed recommendations.
  • Analyze financial data and documentation to identify potential tax issues and opportunities for optimization.
  • Educate our personnel about tax strategies, responsibilities, and best practices through presentations and training sessions.
  • Act as a go-to resource for management, addressing tax-related inquiries and clarifying tax matters. With outside parties
  • Assist our organization in understanding tax compliance requirements and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with external tax professionals, including tax preparers and CPAs, to ensure accurate and timely tax filings.
  • Review tax-related documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain detailed records of tax-related interactions and guidance provided to our organization.

 

 

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Handle tax compliance for federal, state, and local income taxes, payroll taxes, excise taxes, and sales and use taxes, including property tax.
  • Participate in the marketing, networking, and business development within your area of relative business functions within the Group.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
  • Conduct top-level review of tax returns and resolve tax issues.
  • Plan and oversee the tax process, including budgeting, staffing, monitoring, timely billing, and timely collection of applicable accounts receivable.
  • Introduce and develop new ideas to improve outcomes.
  • Review studies of tax implications and offer alternative courses of action.
  • Special Projects as assigned, for example research on possible target entities.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; a Master's degree in taxation or relevant certification (e.g., Enrolled Agent, Certified Public Accountant) is preferred, with equivalent work experience considered.
  • Profound knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and tax planning strategies applicable to various sectors, such as manufacturing, real estate, and government contracts.
  • Experience in a privately held single tax company is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with tax planning and compliance software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Team player capable of providing expertise to various business sectors within the organization.
  • Experience with tax planning and compliance software
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in corporate tax accounting.

 

Where will you work? This role will be based at either Autocar's headquarters in Birmingham, AL or Chicago, IL.
