Operations Engineer Job Description

 

Summary

The primary responsibility of the Operations Engineer is to apply their mechanical, electrical, technical, systems and operational knowledge to support the company's manufacturing, purchasing, logistics, IT or other operations. Operations Engineers will perform all aspects of operational assessment, improvement and quality, including but not limited to:

 

1.Identify operational challenges and priorities by assessing operational and project objectives, including efficiency cost savings, energy conservation, time, and costs. Responsible for cost, schedule and technical performance of assigned projects.

2.Assist in designing, maintaining, implementing and transforming operational processes.

3.Install and maintain variety of equipment and systems within the scope of operations area. Design equipment layouts, assist with technical operations and implement changes to planning.

4.Conduct investigations and use engineering theories and principles to improve and update operational systems, manage materials, repair machinery, provide preemptive maintenance, and document operational procedures and processes. Seek improvements to operational quality, efficiency and costs. Provide operational management information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing operating and system trends.

5.Work as a team with other engineers, quality control specialists, and others to increase operational efficiency, fine-tune systems and establish best practices.

6.Train managers and other personnel to use new and upgraded machinery, systems and processes. Build and execute unit tests and unit test plans.

7.Develop operational solutions by defining, studying, estimating, and testing alternative approaches.

8.Anticipate operational problems by studying operating targets, modes of operation, and unit limitations.

Preferred Experience

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in appropriate Engineering discipline.

Experience in manufacturing environment, preferably assembly in the automotive or heavy truck industry

Understanding of operations, design, services and applications and problem-solving for same.

Strong research, analysis and reporting skills.

Strong work ethic, great attitude and willingness to learn

Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with ability to manage multiple priorities at once

Production-oriented and hands-on

Effective communicator across all levels of the organization

MS Office proficiency
