Senior Systems Engineer
Location: Bethesda, MD

This position is based in Bethesda, MD.

Position Description:
- Supervise, coordinate and/or perform additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, and attached devices; including investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software.
- Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
- Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols.
- Participate in planning design, technical review and implementation for new network infrastructure hardware and network operating systems for voice and data communication networks.
- Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP.
- Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government.
- Diagnose and resolve complex communication problems.
- Self-management of technical projects to include timelines, design, implementation, build and test plans.
- Process automation and scripting.
- Work hands-on designing and troubleshooting servers running Windows Server 2012 and 2016 in multi-tiered federal agency on-premises and cloud environments.
- Consult and assist developers to develop Windows server and application hosting solutions.
- Advanced engineering and administration of web and application servers including IIS and Apache.
- Debug application and server performance issues.
- Monitor servers along with resident applications and provide/implement solutions.
- Install and configure enterprise server software in a dynamic customer environment.
- Communicate with infrastructure, security, and agency leadership about work that is active, completed, and in backlog status.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or seven (7) years of experience in the field.
- Must meet all requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Public Trust Clearance.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure administration.
- Exposure to server management systems like BigFix or LANrev.
- Exposure to server and application deployment automation systems like Jenkins and Docker.
- Strong system administrative skills in Windows servers environment.
- Experience in VMware virtualization platform.
- Extensive experience with SolarWinds.
- Understanding of troubleshooting as well as long-term solutions.
- General understanding of server/storage technical operational practices.
- Understanding of ITIL practices.
- Ability to work hands-on to design and troubleshoot Windows servers.
- Advanced experience with Active Directory.
- Advanced experience with IIS web server administration Familiarity with ITSM, SDLC, and DevOps.
- Experience with PowerShell, BASH, Perl, or another scripting.
- Ability to work with issue tracking software and independently resolve issues.
- Professional experience working in an enterprise data center environment with load-balanced, multi-tiered application infrastructures.

- The following certifications and skillset are preferred
     - Microsoft MSCE, Windows Server OS, IIS, PowerShell, System Center Operation and Configuration Management
     - Microsoft Azure Administration
     - Microsoft Azure DevOps
     - AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Professional
     - VMware Data Center Virtualization (DCV) – Design or Deploy
     - Nutanix Platform Expert (NPX)
     - IBM BigFix Lifecycle Administration
     - Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management (ITIL) v3 or higher
     - CompTIA Security+ Certified Professional
