The Strategic Negotiation team is an integral part of EightBar.  The group is responsible for global corporate media contract negotiation, key partner relationship management, global coordination of budgets and reporting, and review, evaluation and approval of pricing including sponsorships and new opportunities.  The team is involved in all aspects of the business and must keep up to date on the ever-changing media landscape, including demand generation media, programmatic, social and search as well as traditional media tactics. Also, key industry topics such as Viewability and Fraud.  This is a dynamic and strategic team that provide significant value to IBM and manage the relationship between IBM and core global media partners.

 Job Overview:

 A significant part of this role involves managing value across multiple campaigns, ensuring that it is planned and executed.  You will be working with media direct investment teams to ensure they stay on track with plans for their allocated balances. You will lead the communication to the clients and manage the approval process with the clients and the media partner. You’ll work with Corporate clients on a frequent basis, and work across multiple teams including direct investment (Digital, TV, and Print), social and programmatic.

 In addition, this role will have responsibilities to negotiate, manage and steward corporate media contracts for IBM.  Manage the overall corporate contract relationship between IBM and several large U.S. and Global media companies.  Requires experience in negotiating media, with specific emphasis on digital (demand generation and social a plus) as well as print media. 

Manager will negotiate US Digital and Print rates as well as Global contract terms and conditions.  In addition to negotiation, responsibility includes working with media planning teams worldwide to manage contract spending and help achieve contract objectives.  This includes analyzing spending trends, negotiating special media opportunities, and tracking overall contract performance.  Will work closely with direct investment teams, for all media (TV, print, digital, social, programmatic etc.), and work closely with IBM Corporate media clients. 

Candidate should have at least 3-4 years experience in media, ideally with a background in planning or buying, or other AOR responsibility (other backgrounds could include operations or financial). The ideal candidate should have familiarity with media planning and buying process, as well as an ability to understand media objectives and strategy.  Proficiency in digital media negotiation and execution is strongly desired. Experience on IT or B2B accounts is a plus. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Managing value across multiple campaigns, ensuring that it is planned and executed, and reports to client on an ongoing basis (weekly, quarterly, and as needed)
  • Learn to develop strategy for several assigned media company corporate contracts (total number is subject to vary)
  • Negotiates contracts for assigned media companies, covering off digital and print rates, incentives, and other digital/demand generation tactics such as content syndication, webcasts, custom units, content creation, mobile/tablet executions, oversized digital units, roadblock units, etc. Position must keep up with the ever-evolving digital landscape as this is an ever-increasing area of IBM’s media investment.
  • Maintains contract relationship with media company throughout the year, stewarding IBM’s investment throughout the calendar year, not simply when contracts are final negotiated and signed
  • Develops strategy and negotiates contracts for additional smaller agreements
  • Presentations to clients
  • Manages a team of 1-2 media professionals

 Job Skills & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Knowledgeable about and experienced with the concepts, approaches and issues involved in tactical media planning
  • Familiar with the timelines, processes and needs of the implementation of all media
  • Knowledgeable about new approaches to and developments in tactical planning and media negotiation
  • Strong digital knowledge
  • Knowledge of demand generation tactics, social and search a plus
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving
