Job description

Job title: Intern, Invention (3 months)

Group: Mindshare WW

Client/s: Various

Start date: July 2019

About Mindshare:

Ours is the story of the eternal upstart and change is in our DNA. We were born with the ambition to change the world through media. Raised in Asia, we are now the world’s most geographically balanced global network spanning US, Latin America, Europe and Asia. Mindshare’s birth in 1997 shifted the focus from media as a pure commodity to media as a change agent. Our ambition was to go beyond the traditional media descriptors of “Optimise, Capitalise, Maximise.” We will not be defined by the formulaic definitions of media. Mindshare’s story is about teamwork. It’s why we called ourselves Mindshare in the first place! We were designed to be a global network, balanced in every region, with clients benefitting from both global and local insights. Today 75% of our business is global and our global network and integrated approach is our strength.

We are a global media agency network with billings in excess of US$31.4 billion (source: RECMA) and our network consists of more than 7,000 employees, in 116 offices across 86 countries. Mindshare is part of GroupM, which oversees the media investment management sector for WPP, the world’s leading communications services group.

About the Internship:

The Mindshare Worldwide Invention team specialises in Content and Partnerships, including Sports and Entertainment Marketing. A significant amount of the content projects we manage are related to sports and entertainment properties which provides the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the area of sponsorship. While specializing in Content and Partnerships, the purpose of the team is to integrate these assets to the media strategy and plans managed by the Mindshare client account teams. This integration is the basis of our unique proposition and one of the main reasons why clients value our work.

What will I spend my time doing?

You will be involved in a broad range of the Invention team’s core workstreams such as project management, data collection, client and stakeholder relationship management, coordination, analysis and reporting.

We have also built out a new tool within the Invention team called the Whitelist. This tool is a web-based search platform that houses information on all the partners that we work with – think Netflix for content partners and one of the key tasks for the intern will be collecting information and data from current partners (contact info, images, examples of work, videos, films) and uploading it to the whitelist. You will also be tasked with uploading content to the Whitelist content+ platform.

Outside of the Whitelist project there will be opportunities to attend meetings and help on ad hoc client projects as well as researching potential partners for activations with content partnership and global sponsorship.

What will I learn?

You will gain a good understanding of the content marketing space, as well as an understanding of what how a media agency works at a global level.

We are on the hunt for someone who:

  • Has a keen interest in media and marketing
  • Uses their initiative to problem solve
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Is organised and good at managing their time
  • Is willing to ask questions when they don’t understand something and listens carefully to the answers given
  • Is enthusiastic and willing to take on any challenge given to them

Key Skills

  • Has an interest in the creative industry and can demonstrate a balance of creative and logical thinking
  • Has an understanding of internet culture and is web-literate
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • High quality written and verbal communication skills
