The Role

GroupM, an award-winning global media agency network, seeks a game-changing, self-starting Communications leader for its largest region—Europe, Middle East & Africa. Reporting to GroupM EMEA CEO, this role will be a critical member of the company’s regional executive team (especially close collaboration with the GroupM Services and Growth teams), directly supporting and enabling the regional CEO’s communications priorities. 

The ideal candidate has a track record of designing and deploying strategic, innovative, and measurable communication programs. English fluent and adept at positioning and message management for various circumstances and cultures, this individual’s activities will include employee events, internal communications, news announcements, press relations and social publishing. Strong communications skills (verbal and script) are critical.

The ideal candidate has a love of different cultures and is able to work independently while  building trusted relationships with the regional Executive Team, in-market communications professionals, and the global GroupM marketing leadership.

Some of the things this professional will do

  • Support executive communications and deliver critical messages by providing strategic counsel and support to senior executives to tell GroupM’s story effectively in the press, industry events, and internal audiences.
  • Supervise and shape the company’s messaging and proactively develop talking points for leadership to address important issues.
  • Design the regional Communications plan that includes the critical basics of: who, what, when, where (and how much).
  • Author and coordinate day-to-day communications activities including speechwriting, events, internal communications, news announcements, POV authorship,
  • Support internal communications and employee experience initiatives working with EMEA Executives.
  • Create a center of knowledge—in collaboration with the country communications professionals-- that include news on executives, GroupM and WPP at large, industry topics, and key client trends and movements. This knowledge will be applied in new business pitches, as an example.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at GroupM global and WPPto ensure messaging and goal alignment. 
  • Organize/coordinate to develop EMEA comms messaging library, specific credential decks or adapt the global narratives, messaging & press documents for EMEA.
  • Social Media Account Management – content management and moderation of EMEA CEO’s social media accounts.
  • Tracking – tracking of news about GroupM, WPP, EMEA CEO, GroupM Global leadership and related industry topics (e.g. pitches, brand sustainability, brand DEI initiatives, top 20 client hot topics.
  • EMEA Market Accountability – oversight of comms and marketing activities in GroupM EMEA Markets and Agencies across the Region, to ensure alignment and consistency.

Capabilities and Relationships

  • Domain expertise in brand building and communications to internal and external audiences with excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Expert understanding of critical regional trends in the Media and Communications industry, categories, digital marketing space, and the growing dependency on data, technology, and software.
  • Attentive to detail and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a scaled and matrixed environment; highly collaborative.
  • Positive attitude, proactive leadership, and the ability to build consensus with diplomacy across diverse points of views, markets and cultures.
  • Appreciation for social media and interest in emerging communications platforms and tools.
