Objectives of the Role:


With more digital clients and billings than any other agency in the UK, MediaCom is a digital powerhouse. We now have an opportunity to not only lead the market in terms scale, but perception also. The ambition is to establish MediaCom as the leader, known for digital excellence and innovation, in a competitive and cluttered digital marketplace,


Our Chief Digital Officer will lead the charge on driving this agenda forward, by building capability and leadership in our digital specialisms, creating the right product proposition and delivering on our vision of Systems Thinking. They will have senior relationships with our key clients and partners and be the face of our digital vision within the agency and beyond.




Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability:


1. Product Development

  • Establish a clear view on our digital proposition recognising both in-channel expertise and cross-channel integration and delivery
  • Provide the business with a clear view on in-housing, where we as MediaCom can play a critical role and a strategy for how we win back digital scope on our existing clients
  • Build a roadmap and business case for how we should continually evolve and grow our digital capability to stay ahead of the market (new digital practices, capabilities etc.)
  • Establish new digital products and services for our clients that will keep us ahead of the market and generate incremental revenue for the business
  • Create operational agency standards within digital that both improve output and minimise the unnecessary and costly repetitive tasks
  • Drive adoption/ development of tools and systems that can improve efficiency and drive more effective output (e.g. automation tools e.g. Marvin)
  • Own/ manage the relationship with key platform partners to develop unique access that will give our clients incremental benefit
  • Establish a relationship with WPP partners to ensure we are utilising existing expertise which we can learn from or work with (e.g. Acceleration)

2.  Client Leadership 

  • Work with the Head of Platform Strategy to Identify the Top 10 clients and work with the Business Group Heads/ Digital Data Partners to build out digital roadmaps that will put MC at the top table in digital / marketing conversations
  • Build deep relationships with our key digital clients and be accountable for the digital transformation of these clients
  • Keep ahead of developments and innovation across the digital landscape and establish a MediaCom POV that can be quickly understood and embedded across the agency.
  • Take a lead in driving new ways to engage with our clients through the press and speaking events to establish the MediaCom narrative

3.   People Leadership

  • Build a senior team of channel specialists that operate as a collaborative digital function leading our xxx-strong digital team
  • Support this team in establishing best-in-class channel specialism and a strong specialist culture/ community that sits within each of the business group
  • Support and mobilise the Business Group Heads to develop digital roadmaps
  • Work with the Business Group Heads to ensure digital leadership is driven down from the top of the organisation
  • Identify and build business cases for new digital capability required to create leadership in the market

4. New Business Growth

  • Lead the way on new digital products and service designed to deliver incremental growth through digital media channels
  • Ensure that our digital narrative is clear and motivating and drives forward our new business strategy
  • Lead on new business pitches


Key Performance Indicators:


  • Client: Successful relationships with key clients (TRR/ Service scores)
  • People: Build a strong digital leadership team that influences and mobilises the specialist teams (team churn)
  • Product: Establish the MediaCom as ‘famous for digital’ within the agency and in the wider marketplace (awards, Vantage and new business wins)
  • Growth: Develop a digital roadmap of tools and services/ new business success

          Personal development: Positive My360 feedback from manager, peers and clients (where appropriate)
