Senior Planner – Costa & Bayer


Overview of role


MediaCom is looking for a senior planner to join the Costa and Bayer team, working across some of Britain’s most innovative and recognisable brands with exciting market challenges and brand opportunities. A Planner or Exec looking to take the next step with some digital experience would be ideal.


Costa and Bayer (which own brands including Berocca, Clarityn, Canesten and Rennie) are long-standing clients in the agency with brands loved by the nation. Costa is the largest coffee business in the UK and presents a fantastic opportunity for a quick thinking, digitally savvy, creative planner to develop across all media channels. Bayer are going through exciting digital and data transformation as a business in their pursuit to be the number one Health Care company.


Costa and Bayer are brilliant clients to work with – challenging Mediacom to deliver best-in-class media strategy and digital thinking, whilst also looking to explore the new and different. Our integrated team incorporates talent from the systems intelligence and the creative systems teams, offering an opportunity to understand the full agency offer.


Working on these accounts will give you the opportunity to work with and learn from and help develop some of the most dynamic and talented people at MediaCom, from a variety of departments.


Reporting of the role


You will report into the Manager, Alex Rubins (Muller) and Anna Townsend, Associate Director (Bayer)

Measures of success


In three months, you would have:

  • Onboarded fully onto the accounts and met all key stakeholders
  • Built strong relationships with teams and clients
  • Worked closely with the AM/AD to develop a campaign brief


In six months, you would have:

  • Gained trust of all internal & external stakeholders
  • Led elements of 1 or more responses to brief
  • Positively contributed to the quality of planning output on these accounts



In 12 months, you would have:

  • Owned a response from briefing to activation



Responsibilities of the role


  • Support the development of exceptional, award-winning planning work
  • Be a go-to source of energy and insight in the team
  • Co Ordinate responses across channels, thinking in systems not silos
  • Co Ordinate campaign best practice with more junior members of the team
  • Challenge the ordinary and help our team produce great work


What you will need


  • A thirst for learning about technology, trends, media, people, brands and the industry
  • An ambition and tenacity to make the ordinary extraordinary
  • An ability to spot the real issue behind the brief – knowing how to challenge the client to understand what they really need
  • Data-literacy – aware of the available resources and how to turn data into insights that shape clear strategic opportunities
  • Knowledge of the nuts and bolts of media well enough to be able to develop a top-line media plan
  • Attention to detail
  • Good storytelling skills – to give our ideas and thinking the best chance of coming to fruition
  • Team management skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and manage workload
  • Calm under pressure
  • Some digital experience/exposure
