Role Context

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of our Data & Technology team as we further expand our Data Engineering services and capabilities. Data is at the heart of everything we do and our clients rely on clean, insightful data to make decisions about media investment. Our Data Engineers provide the data that fuels reports, dashboards and advanced analytics, building and maintaining the tools and systems that make this happen at scale, leveraging automation and cloud technologies.

About You

You will have some experience working in a data-oriented environment, with a solid understanding of database concepts and exposure to working in cloud setups. Experience with media data is useful but not essential. Your skills and experience will also include:

  • Solid SQL skills, both data definition and data manipulation
  • Fundamental database administration and optimisation skills
  • Basic knowledge of data warehousing concepts
  • An understanding of the principles and processes of ETL
  • Experience working with ETL tools to build and manage data pipelines
  • Experience analysing and solving problems through interpreting data
  • An ability to communicate technical subjects with non-technical audiences
  • Self-starter and motivator with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to quickly learn and understand new skills
  • The ability to achieve high quality results by paying attention to detail
  • A natural desire to share knowledge and teach others

 

The ideal candidate will also have skills including:

  • Experience working within the Azure environment (or other cloud environments)
  • Experience working within a client-facing role
  • Exposure to Agile working practices inc. use of platforms such as Jira
  • Coding skills in one major scripting language (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Visual Basic)
  • Experience with a common data visualisation platform (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Datorama, Looker etc.)
  • An understanding of the digital media landscape, it’s typical data sources and data challenges

About the Role

The Data Engineer will work within a small but agile team of engineers and visualisation specialists. While the role will initially interact primarily with stakeholders within the team, interaction with non-technical internal clients is also a key aspect. Core responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the Lead BI Developer to gather requirements, scope and manage projects
  • Working with the team to develop, implement & maintain data pipelines and ETL solutions
  • Designing, implementing, monitoring and optimising database solutions & setups
  • Debugging, monitoring and troubleshooting reporting solutions and associated technologies
  • Developing and implementing best practices and guidelines for data management
  • Automating manual tasks within and beyond the immediate team
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for our solutions
  • Participating in research and development to take our solutions to the next level
  • Maintaining and building your own knowledge to ensure Mindshare leads in this field
