Job purpose:

The Account Executive is responsible for assisting the Account Manager in the strategic development and activation of U.K Market media communications.

The U.K is the firms largest European market where it helps institutions (pension funds/charities), intermediaries (wealth and financial advisers) and end investors structure and run their investment portfolios.

Reporting structure:

The Account Executive will be reporting in to the U.K Account Manager on BlackRock. There will also be tasks and accountability to the EMEA partner. As a local market we feed into the EMEA hub (based in London) and work closely with other local markets in addition to the Global team based in New York.

About the team:

We are a hardworking and close-knit group of colleagues who are required to deliver high standards of work, working directly with local and regional clients. There is a balance of locally led media planning and execution in addition to centrally led collaboration at a Pan-European level. This means we are often required to keep many balls in the air and work continuously to tight deadlines, managing multiple clients simultaneously. However, this is required and done in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

Principal accountabilities:


  • Project management: An Executive will work closely with the AM/AE on all projects as required and communicate any issues as soon as they arise.
    Project management roles for an Executive will involve:
    • Production and distribution of status reports, meeting organisation and client updates
    • Co-ordinating different project stakeholders
    • Diligence and conscientiousness with deadlines and personal management


  • Campaign Planning: The AE’s role will be to assist with all aspects of campaign planning, aiding the AM/AE in the development of central strategic recommendations based on researched consumer insights, cultural trends and business objectives.
    • Research: Understanding of all tools utilized to capture unique insights about our targets and how they interact with digital media. Must understand how to both pull the data and interpret results.
    • Briefing: Assist the AM/AE in developing a consideration set of relevant media partners, whilst being responsible for building and distributing briefs to those Media Owners & setting appropriate deadlines and deliverables.
    • Evaluation: Work with the AM/AE to evaluate the contents of each proposal as relates to the requirements of the brief
    • Negotiation: Assist AM/AE in negotiating plans.


  • Campaign Implementation: The AE will be responsible for activating and maintaining all campaigns with assistance from the AM/AE when required.
    • Lead the execution/implementation of media plans based on the approved digital and campaign strategy
      • Management of central and local campaign activations
      • Manage creative agencies to ensure development of the appropriate creative assets is delivered in timely fashion
      • Work with relevant stakeholders (creative agency and 3rd party ad servers etc) to tag and traffic all digital media
  • Ownership and management of the booking and financial process for all media buys
    • Reconciliation and actualization of media buys to ensure efficient and timely payment of suppliers
    • Budget and invoice tracking and management
  • Campaign Reporting: Campaigns will typically be reported to clients monthly and require an analytical approach to data interpretation             
    • AE should understand how data is pulled and formatted to build appropriate visualizations of performance
    • AE will manage all campaign reporting, working with the AM/AE to provide a high calibre of analytical reporting outputs; developing insights, learning’s and implications for client presentation, including post-campaign analysis
    • Work with AM/AE to build and refine reporting templates to each campaign
    • Monitor and optimize media based on campaign KPIs


  • Relationships
    • Maintain and develop strong relationships with media and technology vendors
    • Develop & maintain strong day-to-day working relationships with external digital and creative agency partners, helping to develop cohesive and single-minded solutions for the client
    • Build rapport with the rest of the team as well as other colleagues elsewhere within the Mindshare group
  • Landscape knowledge and insights
    • Deepen understanding of emerging trends in the digital space from a consumer behavior and technology standpoint
    • Develop knowledge of key digital areas relevant to the brand: Content Integration/syndication, Display, Search, Social

  • Ability to participate in conversations regarding media trends and consumer behaviours
  • Learn to manage the output of external agencies and internal team members
  • Understand the steps of the overall campaign development & management process
  • Confident to pose appropriate questions to Clients, Media Owners and internal team members
  • Build strong relationships with external agency partners and media owners

Key skills & knowledge:

Previous Experience

  • Relevant experience in media planning/buying
  • Strong numeric and analytical skills
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks/work streams simultaneously
  • Able to deliver work to agreed deadlines as well as strong attention to detail
  • Presentation skills – writing presentations according to objectives and audience as well as presenting when necessary.


  • Experience with Microsoft’s suite of office tools – particularly excel and powerpoint
  • Experience of client invoicing process
  • Understanding of media buying and campaign management process

Performance measures: 

  • Has this person developed the appropriate action plans on a project basis and managed external agency outputs in line with Manager/Client expectations?
  • How effective has the campaign implementation & delivery process been? Have deadlines and team/client expectations been met? Has enough preparation and thinking been put in place prior to the campaign going live?
  • How connected has this person been with other internal teams managing different aspects of the campaigns (i.e offline, search, mobile, local markets, etc)
  • Has the person stayed on top of emerging digital trends & developed their understanding of them.
