Job purpose:

The Account Manager is responsible for leading the strategic development and activation of U.K Market media campaigns and communications.


The Account Manager is the key day-to-day focal point of the UK account, and are expected to:

  • Have a deep understanding of finance sector and asset management.
  • Have a complete understanding of their assigned clients’ media business, including their overall business and marketing objectives.
  • Steward the media planning process and provide mid-level strategic recommendations to the senior media team and/or the client. 
  • Demonstrate a hunger for innovation and an aspiration to bring those to the clients for their success.
  • Have a very strong knowledge of planning and buying with media owners in the finance space
  • Have a good knowledge of performance marketing and understand programmatic and other performance focused tactics.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of the media space (including traditional media and print specifically) and available media research.

Reporting structure:


Reporting to the Account Director, you will be supported by two Account Executives on BlackRock. You will also work in collaboration with the wider agency team; spanning strategy, social, ad-ops, business planning and research.


About the team:

We are a hardworking and close-knit group of colleagues who are required to deliver high standards of work, working directly with local and regional clients. There is a balance of locally led media planning and execution in addition to centrally led collaboration at a Pan-European and Global level. This means we are often required to keep many balls in the air and work continuously to tight deadlines, managing multiple clients simultaneously. However, this is required and done in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.


Principal accountabilities:


  • Project management: A manager will work closely with the AD/AE on all projects as required and communicate any issues as soon as they arise.
    Project management roles for a Manager will involve:
    • Collaboration with the EMEA central team on regional campaign and projects.
    • Co-ordinating different project stakeholders within the business.
    • Diligence and conscientiousness with deadlines and personal management


  • Campaign Planning: The AM’s role will be to provide innovation and leadership with all aspects of campaign planning. You will aid the AD and Comms planner in the development of central strategic recommendations based on researched consumer insights, cultural trends and business objectives.
    • Research: Understanding of all tools utilized to capture unique insights about our targets and how they interact with digital media. Must understand how to both pull the data and interpret results.
    • Briefing: Supporting the client in providing detailed briefs and assisting the AE in developing a consideration set of relevant media partners, whilst being responsible for building and distributing briefs to those Media Owners & setting appropriate deadlines and deliverables.
    • Evaluation: Work with the AE to evaluate the contents of each proposal as relates to the requirements of the brief
    • Negotiation: Lead the team in managing rates and value negotiations on plans.


  • Campaign Implementation: The AM will be responsible for overseeing the activation and maintenance of all campaigns with assistance from the AE.
    • Lead the execution/implementation of media plans based on the approved digital and campaign strategy
      • Management of central and local campaign activations
      • Manage creative agencies to ensure development of the appropriate creative assets is delivered in timely fashion
      • Work with relevant stakeholders (creative agency and 3rd party ad servers etc) to tag and traffic all digital media
  • Support the AE in the management of the booking and financial process for all media buys
    • Reconciliation and actualization of media buys to ensure efficient and timely payment of suppliers
    • Budget and invoice tracking and management
  • Campaign Reporting: Campaigns will typically be reported to clients monthly and require an analytical approach to data interpretation             
    • AM should understand how data is pulled and formatted to build appropriate visualizations of performance
    • AM will oversee all campaign reporting, working with the AE to provide a high calibre of analytical reporting outputs; developing insights, learning’s and implications for client presentation, including post-campaign analysis
    • Work with AE to build and refine reporting templates to each campaign
    • Developing analysis that leads to optimisation recommendations


  • Relationships
    • Lead the client conversation around media and campaigns, with confidence and flare.
    • Be the ‘go-to’ for client’s questions and be the ‘all seeing’ contact for the UK Market – see yourself as an extension of their marketing team.
    • Maintain and develop strong relationships with media and technology vendors
    • Develop & maintain strong day-to-day working relationships with external digital and creative agency partners, helping to develop cohesive and single-minded solutions for the client
    • Build rapport with the rest of the team as well as other colleagues elsewhere within the Mindshare group
  • Landscape knowledge and insights
    • Deepen understanding of emerging trends in the digital space from a consumer behavior and technology standpoint
    • Develop knowledge of key digital areas relevant to the brand: Content Integration/syndication, Display, Search, Social  

Skills & qualifications:

  • Significant media planning/buying experience, including at least a period focused online.
  • Experience in managing and implementing display activity.
  • Experience working with finance clients, preferably asset management.
  • Confidence in leading the conversation and your own time/priorities in an independent fashion.
  • Performance-minded individual, who understands the concepts of reach, frequency, frequency management, ROI and strategic consumer planning.
  • Exceptional client servicing skills essential to build client trust and confidence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to confidently and clearly present work to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent numeric and analytical skills, with the ability to relate results to client’s business objectives, and translate statistics into insight and actions.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage processes and outputs effectively.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Confident in using industry tools such as Comscore, Nielsen, and key ad server and analytics stacks (Google, Adobe).
