Based: London with global travel as required

The Wavemaker Investment team sits at the very heart of our business, managing billions in media billings across the globe. On one-hand we coordinate the delivery of and maximize performance-related incentives from a range of international client trading commitments. On the other, we promote new trading models that offer significant benefits for our clients

 

Vision for the role

We want someone to take overall investment responsibility for a portfolio of our key global clients and the leadership of a sizeable team. You will be expected to drive the client dialogue on current media performance and landscape as well as developing future facing models as client and marketplace needs evolve. The successful candidate will also be required to have a sharp commercial mind, entrepreneurial flair and the relationship building capabilities to successfully align local, regional, and global needs. This is an integral role within the global client leadership teams.

 

Role & Responsibilities

Client Pricing Delivery & Management

  • Establish yourself as the client’s trusted advisor on all trading and value matters, working closely with the local Wavemaker teams and the client to ensure our trading delivery remains in line with all requirements
  • Manage the relationship with media auditors working across your clients, agreeing relevant and reasonable media value performance KPIs with the auditor and client
  • Work with local market trading teams to ensure that they fully understand commitment structures and are equipped to maximize incentive delivery against these
  • Ensure use of preferred suppliers is maximized in line with client objectives and investment strategy providing the link so that planning and investment teams work cohesively
  • Identify and maximize media partnership opportunities – lead negotiation on client deals with regional / global vendors
  • Ensure any client delivery issues are flagged with local and global agency / GroupM management to ensure a quick resolution
  • Proactively identify value opportunities for your clients.

New Business Investment / Commercial Alignment

  • Support global new business goals by leading investment on key pitches as required
  • Align with local investment leadership and GroupM to ensure pitch pricing is competitive and suitably benchmarked
  • Craft compelling investment stories for pitch submissions ensuring all the benefits of Wavemaker, GroupM and WPP are brought to bear
  • Work together with commercial teams to ensure that the design and application of trading-based incentives are feasible and achievable
  • Provide expert input on all trading-related contract/MSA wording

Team Leadership and Development

  • Work with other members of the global investment leadership team to ensure it is set up for success and each member has a clear understanding of their role and the overall team goals
  • Understand the investment team needs now and, in the future, to ensure sufficient resourcing and succession planning is in place
  • Create motivating career goals for your team and work with GroupM to create required training programs for ongoing development.
  • Contribute to the global trading community and ensure that best practice is regularly shared, and local / regional teams are suitably supported

 

Required Experience & skills

  • Substantial experience in one or a combination of local media buying, international media buying coordination and evaluation
  • Excellent client relationship skills with the ability to communicate complexity across multiple geographies and cultures.
  • Strong understanding of digital buying and evaluation experience including an up-to-date understanding of the digital landscape
  • Commercially minded, entrepreneurial approach to revenue generation
  • Solid understanding of client marketing and procurement functions
  • History of successful team leadership, training, and development
  • Keen eye for detail and desire to tell a compelling story through the numbers
  • Confident presenting to senior clients and senior internal management
  • Highly numerate, curious problem-solver
