About the Opportunity: The role is a Business Director within the Audio-Visual team at Mindshare UK, responsible for ensuring highest quality implementational planning output and delivery of all AV buying across the Unilever account. It is a senior role within Mindshare, reporting into Colin Prankard, Unilever AV Client Director with a line also into the Head of AV, David Sargent.


You will be a trusted advisor for Unilever with a wealth of knowledge across all elements of Audio-Visual media, motivated and driven to deliver highest quality of output, a role model and mentor for their team and a leader within the Mindshare.


What you will do:

  • Manage the planning, buying and reporting of numerous campaigns at the same time
  • Help upskill all direct reports, developing their knowledge and skills across TV, Video, Radio and Digital Audio and ensuring all plans and delivery are consistent with Unilever deals and contract commitments
  • Work directly with the UL clients across entire portfolio of brands to develop and execute plans
  • Have a strong eye for detail and ability to interpret complex data, maintaining a variety of planning and reporting tools and developing efficiencies to save time and ensure accuracy
  • Work with the market to execute aligned to UL stringent buying guarantees
  • Media owner negotiation and pitch experience; supported by the Client Director
  • Run a team with confidence and can do attitude


Fundamental to the role is helping Unilever understand rapidly evolving media world, its challenges, opportunities and to identify the best shape for their investment whilst ensuring that they get the best value return. Respect for the confidentiality of Unilever’s deals will be essential.


A Day in the Life:

  • Manage a close-knit AV planning and buying team of 6 working solely across Unilever brands ranging from Walls to Sure. 2021 saw the team expand in size and skillset and in 2022 it will be essential to ensure the team’s learning and development across all elements of Audio-Visual media continues.
  • Oversee the day to day running of the accounts across all AV media internally and conversing with both Clients and Media owners alike on a regular basis to ensure all campaigns are planned and delivered as required.
  • Monitor the planning and buying of TV, VOD and radio campaigns
  • Negotiate with media owners in terms of overall trading deals (with support), through to buying airtime when required.

Key skills and personal attributes:

  • Highly developed technical media skills; able to navigate complex client guarantee delivery
  • Sound working understanding of all major UK media markets
  • Have experience working with Ebiquity auditors, with experience in complex data transfer. This is also required for WW benchmarking
  • Proven ability and experience of leading and motivating a team
  • Ability to quickly command respect from clients and colleagues alike
  • Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships both internally and externally
  • Ability to balance competing demands of different stakeholders without deviating from an objective and independent perspective
  • A great communicator able to explain complicated concepts simply
  • Ability to produce compelling written work and to deliver insightful and articulate presentations
  • Commercial aptitude and an ability to sell
