About the team and/or client

The GroupM University (Learning & Development function) is centre of learning excellence serving our GroupM talent as well as our operating companies where we aim to set, and share, the best practice learning and development standards for the Group.  We are a resource that all employees have access to at any time to secure both online and in person learning on a vast array of subjects.  We act as a coordinator for our own talented experts across the operating companies, harnessing their knowledge to keep ahead of the industry changes.

The Role Objective

This role will focus on supporting and driving the eLearning and technology strategy as we continue to deliver quality training programmes and work towards being at the forefront of online and eLearning development opportunities for our business. The role will have a keen focus on supporting subject matter experts, media owners and technology partners in designing and developing business skills and systems training both synchronous and asynchronous. It will also focus on the LMS design and development, working with third party vendors on functionality, improvements, restructuring and re-design, and general monitoring and maintenance. 

The L&D Manager will be hands on with the design and development of eLearning modules supporting and complementing a variety of Business Skills, Media Systems and Personal Skills workshops. With line management responsibility for Digital Learning Specialists, the role holder will develop a robust eLearning process, providing structure and clarity, instruction and best practice for both subject matter experts and the team.  Constantly looking for new ways to improve, keeping up with latest technology and industry changes, the role holder will help lead the way in best practice and setting standards and ensuring we connect and share with the wider global learning community.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of the eLearning strategy for GMU by sharing expert knowledge of tools, trends and the latest thinking on learning design.
  • Build strong working relationships and work with subject matter experts (SMEs) across the business to understand technical requirements, workflow, processes and/or systems and tools and determine suitable learning solutions that are aligned closely to the needs of the business, managing expectations where appropriate.
  • tasks, actions and timescales are agreed as appropriate.
  • Advise and coach SMEs as they curate their content, offering guidance and support and managing projects in an agile way.
  • Create a development process and advise/challenge SME’s where required.
  • Help to raise awareness with stakeholders and the wider learning team about how digital learning can support their training needs.
  • Produce responsive and adaptive content working with the creative team to ensure content is engaging and on-brand.
  • Advise on how best to utilise authoring and other relevant tools to enhance the design of our solutions, making them engaging and interactive for the learner.
  • Review, update and maintain the GMU LMS, developing a ‘Learning Provider’ style platform, drawing equally upon creative and technical skills to ensure it is GroupM brand compliant, modern, engaging and easy to navigate.
  • Work with our third-party provider to evolve and improve the platform ensuring it is secure and GDPR compliant at all times.
  • Manage timely publishing to the LMS and Vimeo of all video content and eLearning modules and any other assets, including assessments, as required.

Skills and Behaviours

An individual with strong experience of technical/systems training and creative instructional design experience would be ideal, and with the desire to keep up to date with the latest changes and trends through appropriate communities of practice.

The role holder will have the ability to turn workflow and/or processes into digestible content appropriate to the system and learner.  They will be proficient in administering Moodle (or similar) based platforms and using eLearning development and editing tools.  They will have a good understanding of instructional design, as well as the end-to-end learning cycle with an emphasis on blended learning.

They will be excited and curious about Learning Technologies, passionate about building creative solutions that inspire and engage the learner and continually keep up to date with developments in the latest tools and proactively share this knowledge.

They will be comfortable working across a number of projects at the same time, managing their time efficiently and prioritising as appropriate. The role holder will have strong communication, organisational and project management skills, with a keen eye and exceptional attention to detail. They will also have the ability to build credibility with subject matter experts/stakeholders quickly. With a desire to produce quality work in a fast-paced environment the role holder will also be comfortable with analysing data and creating useful statistics and reports as required.The role holder will take accountability for ownership of projects and have a strong drive for results.  Excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible can-do work ethic and a good sense of humour and fun is essential but with the ability to remain focussed and maintain momentum to achieve objectives and desired results.

Experience Preferred

  • Previous line manager experience
  • Previous technical training and/or technical instructional design
  • Proficient with Moodle and/or other Learning Management Systems
  • Analysis and production of statistics and reports
  • Experience using instructional design techniques to design effective eLearning
  • Practical experience of using eLearning tools preferably Rise Articulate/Storyline
  • Strong project management skills and proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong team skills and collaborative in approach
  • Keen to be part of a forwarding thinking team
