Position at Wavemaker

The Media Director is a pivotal role within the luxury division of the account with overall accountability for delivery of the scope of work, operational efficiencies, accountability and collaboration across the different business units with regard to the client. To be effective in this role the Account Director will need to understand how the client operates and is structured, the opportunities and challenges that managing a diverse, multi-stakeholder client can bring and importantly how to minimise risk to the account whilst maximising account opportunity, growth and profitability.   
It is essential that the Media Director brings creditability to this role in terms of technical and operational knowledge including: strategic skills, account performance and optimisation; networking and collaboration skills, client management and interpersonal skills, people management and communication skills, accuracy of financial management and reporting.  
Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability:   
1.Strategic Skills   
  • Understand the business and competitive landscape and develop a vision and strategy across all client business and markets 
  • Provide a clear vision for what needs to be achieved annually and have a clear plan regarding timelines, delivery and targets.  
  • Challenge the status quo with the client to provoke development of the client business, actively seeking to implement new and unique ideas on behalf of the client. 
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the luxury industry and develop a holistic strategy targeted to a luxury audience. 
2.  Client Account Management   
  • Build strong relationships with internal  stakeholders a to ensure exceptional service delivery at all times. 
  • Run the day to day management of the account whilst keeping the Client Managing Director updated on the status of the account and escalating any concerns as required. 
  • Work with the Client Managing Director on account profitability and the resource requirements required to deliver overall growth and client development. 
  • Work to deliver against client commitments, with a primary focus on client satisfaction for all areas of offline and digital media  
3.  Operating and Technical Requirements  
  • As the main point of contact on a key client you will have full understanding of their business and communication requirements and be an expert in their category, anticipating problems and providing solutions  
  • Excellent operating and technical knowledge in both online and offline media and able to understand consumer insights and apply results to planning process 
4.   Network & Collaboration  
  • Partner with GroupM divisions where necessary to ensure clients are offered best in class product and service. 
  • Work with  function leads to proactively identify further opportunities for business growth and encourage/develop media innovations. 
  • Constructively negotiate with suppliers and other external partners to secure optimal campaigns across multiple platforms and build and maintain effective, collaborative business relationships to the best advantage of the client. 
5.   People Management  
  • Work with the Client Managing Director and the people team to recruit, develop, motivate, direct and support team members, ensuring appropriate resourcing on the account. 

Key Skills & Experience: 

  • Robust experience in account leadership. Preferably with luxury industry experience.
  • Strong leadership and operational ability.
  • Proven Strategic planning experience & skills. Prior experience working on a global account and presenting strategies to senior stakeholders.
  • An effective communicator who can articulate thoughts in a clear and concise manner to C-level stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • A genuine passion in Client Leadership – nurturing relationships with senior stakeholders of global luxury brands and constantly deliver towards their best interest.
  • Strong people management skills, able to adapt your working style according to the different personas in your team and be an effective mentor.
