Purpose of Role:  To develop and deliver a roadmap for GroupM UK’s platform solutions into our agencies and business.

This is a new role in the business that will start with one experienced Product Manager, however the team will grow as business cases are approved for critical projects that will affect the future success of our business.

About the role

This is a key role within the GroupM Products & Services squad that will directly report into the Head of Product.

This role will involve building a new team and therefore will initially be focused on creating our delivery plan with associated business cases for exciting new initiatives.

These initiatives involve project such as the roll-out of a new advanced multi-media planning and execution platform, a proprietary dynamic creative platform, unique GroupM only tools built to compliment the Google ads stack to name just a few.

The GroupM Product Director needs to work with leaders and innovators from across our wider group to ensure our products and services are successfully landed within our businesses. This role will also be critical in Influencing and making decisions on our wider roadmap. This role will also be forwarded as a key stakeholder for global GroupM and WPP initiatives.

Roadmap Delivery

  • You will be responsible for the creation of a GroupM UK platforms roadmap. You will own the annual process of roadmap evaluation and development with quarterly reviews. The roadmap is not set in stone and can be adjusted as required throughout the year.
  • You will co-ordinate a GroupM UK platforms roadmap bringing together local and global initiatives into one consolidated plan and ensuring we have the correct resources to enable successful delivery.
  • You will be responsible for the deployment and delivery of this roadmap.
  • You will manage resources allocated to the products under your control, scaling effort appropriately through each products lifecycle. Resources will often be allocated in a “matrix” management style.
  • You will liaise with your peers e.g., the Xaxis Product Director, Commerce Product Director to ensure our wider plans roll-up into the full GroupM Product & Services roadmap
  • You will also foster new product initiatives that should be scaled out across the wider group. These will be nurtured and scaled with an agile and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • You will regularly present and articulate a clear product strategy that has the support and “buy in” from all key business stakeholders.
  • This role will also be a key conduit into our Business Transformation squad both to successfully deliver new initiatives but also to ensure that our local business needs are captured and delivered.

Business Case Development

  • This role will be responsible for building business cases to support new initiatives and therefore need to understand typical operating, cost, and commercial models applied in the UK media industry.
  • Frequently the role will be required to work with global and WPP colleagues to build out business cases to support the local deployment on critical new initiatives.
  • The role will regularly need to translate product performance in other markets to build models suitable for UK forecasting.
  • As products scale and grow this role will be responsible for ensuring resource allocation falls in line with our GroupM Services structure.
  • New products and services will typically be incubated until a maturity level is reached where the delivery structure can take advantage of our wider group resources.

Commercial Growth and Success

  • Drive a high-performance culture with a rigorous continual evaluation of our products and services.
  • Have a clear understanding of our products and services financial performance, advise the business with regards resource investment.
  • Have a deep understanding of the supply chain and cost model for the products under your remit.
  • Work with our partnerships team to ensure best in class partners at fair and efficient pricing.
  • Work with our agencies to ensure commercial models are being utilized effectively with clients.
  • Troubleshoot and pro-actively manage business challenges.

Network Integration

  • You will be responsible for early-stage adoption of new platforms and services that are developed by wider WPP and GroupM colleagues e.g., WPP Open DCO or the Greenhouse JARVIS initiative
  • Your will ensure these offerings integrate into local UK systems and working practises.
  • You will be a lead stakeholder in working groups across the wider business to ensure UK requirements are captured and actioned upon
  • You will actively seek out opportunities for closer and improved working integrations from across the WPP network

  • Proven capability in developing and delivering detailed product roadmaps.
  • Demonstrated ability at delivering new product initiatives into a complex organisation.
  • Specialist digital media knowledge, experience working with DSP’s, Adservers and a wider array of Adtech / Martech.
  • Experience and training in Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • A track record of developing diverse teams who operate inclusively.

Role requirements:

  • Highly knowledgeable and experienced in digital media products and services. credible industry experience with a proven record of delivering results.
  • Proven experience working within and leading teams in an agile manner.
  • Previous hands-on experience delivering or servicing digital media campaigns.
  • Detail orientated, experience building our detailed delivery plans.
  • Strong technical writing skills, the ability to clearly draw up and articulate a business case to key stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with handling client and agency stakeholders as well as colleagues at all levels
  • Assertive yet diplomatic – prepared to fight for the right cause and lead from the front.
