Overview of job
The Senior Planner position on the Sky team is the perfect role for a bright, enthusiastic and personable character, and an opportunity to work within the umbrella of the biggest advertiser in the country, and on the most exciting and popular brands within that. The successful candidate will support the management of the day to day account, lead on a number of key projects with the support of a planner, and deliver idea-first media solutions that drive innovation on Sky. The candidate should also have an established knowledge of the UK digital landscape and experience using insights and planning tools to ensure our plans are digital-first, founded in insight and set-up to test & learn. Measures of success :

In three months, you would have:

  • Become an established member of the team in supporting the running of the account
  • Fully understood the client’s business and competitive landscape
  • Identified opportunities for development in more junior members of the team and ensured people have access to the right training/ opportunities.

In six months, you would have:

  • Led and delivered brilliant work for key campaigns - building innovation into our plans, whether this is through smart tech, data, creative or audience insight
  • Attended and passed any training still required at senior planner level, focussed on digital upskilling
  • Built a strong relationship with key clients and become a trusted advisor

In 12 months, you would have:

  • Begun the road to AM level. Learning push objectives and attending the relevant training
  • Developed award winning ideas

Responsibilities of the role:
The Senior Planner role on Sky content has three main responsibilities:

1)      Supporting day-to-day account management and being a go-to person for the client. You will be a key ally to help them develop amazing work. 

2)      Inspiring and managing the junior members of the team. Doing and delegating where appropriate.

3)      Acting as a key fulcrum between planning and other Mediacom departments to ensure a smooth and successful running of the account

People management:

  • Working with your Manager and AD to develop the Planners/ Execs/ Apprentices
  • Flag up any serious performance issues immediately and seek help to manage them accordingly.
  • Help ensure the team are working in a collaborative way with Digital, Investment, MBA, Business Science, Consumer Insight etc.
  • Quality control of output from the junior team



  • Develop strong relationships with day to day clients. Be their go to person; man-marking key associate level contacts at Sky.
  • Meetings and conference calls with Planners & Clients
  • Taking part in stretch sessions
  • Brilliant basics implementational planning
  • Response to brief presentations
  • Inductions to clients
  • Selling ideas into Planning/Clients
  • Work on proposals based on media owner ideas/solutions
  • Re-working proposals based on client or planner feedback/tweaks to brief
  • Maintain strong relationships with SCA
  • Maintain strong relationships with other internal Sky marketing teams: CET, Social, PR
  • Maintain strong relationships with media owners


What you will need:

  • Proven digital understanding, training and ability to support digital discussions in client meetings in lieu of specialist teams
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with excellent written & verbal English language skills/grammar
  • A positive and passionate approach that motivates the team around you
  • Independent worker who can own and manage relationships confidently
  • Drive to execute new ideas and be at the forefront of new industry developments
  • Personality. It’s a work hard, play hard group.
  • A keen eye for detail and a conscientious approach
  • Experience in cross channel media planning
  • Sports/film/TV knowledge and enthusiasm not a pre-requisite but is a significant advantage.
  • Experience in people management
