Job Title:

  • Wavemaker Global Client Finance Director

Role context:

  • This a senor role in the Wavemaker Global Commercial and Legal Team based in London reporting to the Global Commercial Director. The Global Commercial Team is primarily responsible for leading the commercial relationship with Wavemaker’s largest multi-market international clients.
  • The Client Finance Director will lead the commercial management of international clients to help build profitable long-term relationships, as well as being responsible for ensuring that Wavemaker meets all its contractual obligations. This role must build strong relationships with our clients and global, regional, and local stakeholders in Wavemaker, across GroupM and other group agencies.


Key deliverables:


Client management:


  • Provide commercial support to Wavemaker Client Leads across several international clients. Work with Client Leads and Client Procurement to (re)negotiate contracts and terms of business with clients which reflect the scope of work and ensure profitability
  • Support diversification of services/new products - agree appropriate remuneration models with central clients and pro-actively develop and roll-out commercial guidance documents sharing best practice with local markets
  • Work with trading teams to help ensure client acceptance of trading products and put in place the necessary contractual documents
  • Responsible for ensuring contracts are in place for international clients and local markets are compliant with the terms
  • Assist in management of contract compliance audits with third party auditors
  • Ensure international client receivables are highlighted, addressed, and escalated where appropriate so any overdue balances are collected
  • Review of client profitability information to help identify opportunities for maximising revenue
  • Review of client incentives by market to ensure that we are maximising potential revenue



New business:


  • Lead the development of the remuneration / contract proposal for significant international client pitches, align with the Global Exco and follow through to completion
  • Review and negotiation of remuneration / client contracts with client procurement while liaising / seeking approval from internal stakeholders (Wavemaker Global Exco, GroupM / WPP as appropriate)
  • Control over scope of work and service levels for various remuneration models
  • Finalise all commercial terms and brief local markets


Other deliverables/areas of responsibility:


  • Help advise client leaders and local markets on:
  • Remuneration models and best practice
  • Incentive schemes (e.g., service evaluations, media efficiency incentives, or other outcomes)
  • Contractual issues and compliance
  • Risk management and SOx compliance of international contracts
  • Understanding accepted terms and conditions of local markets


Experience / behaviour:


  • Qualified Accountant (preferred) with +10 years PQE
  • Financial and client commercial management in a media / advertising environment
  • Regional experience or experience working with different countries
  • Operational / commercial experience, must be able to add-value, support / enable / facilitate change
  • Collaborative team player, relationship builder with a can-do attitude, lots of energy and drive required
  • Fluency in English is required.  Additional European languages desirable but not essential
