The Client:

 

Shell is one of MediaCom’s largest Global accounts and holds a very prestigious position within the agency.  It’s held up as being one of the most innovative, exciting clients to work on – and for good reason.  A combination of strong leadership, sizeable media budgets and meaty communications briefs has led to multi-award winning work, and critical business results.

 

The Shell Downstream Business refers their activities that are consumer facing – i.e. Retail (Petrol Forecourts, Fuels etc) and Lubricants (Motor Oil for Cars/Trucks and Motorcycles).  Whilst Shell’s ultimate goal is to increase sales and revenue, the evolving market and business context (particularly growing concerns over Climate Change and widespread demand for action) mean that Shell has many fundamental challenges to overcome in order to do this.  For us, this might mean helping them to launch their new Electric Vehicle offering as they diversify into cleaner energy solutions or working on a brief to help them bring their new Zero Carbon Product positioning to life in a category where there are high levels of cynicism and negative sentiment.  There are many initiatives and strategies to get your teeth into to help develop and effectively bring to market. 

 

You would be joining a dedicated client team at MediaCom and be part of a friendly team of high performers with diverse skillsets and backgrounds, from planning, through to strategy and digital.

 

 

The Candidate:

 

The ideal candidate will be experienced in creating 360 plans across offline and online with a knack for finding audience and category insight that translate into brilliant and innovative campaigns. He or she will have a brilliant client manner, with excellent communication skills, adept at managing expectations and building relationships. We are also looking for someone who is organised, keeping projects on time, managing different stakeholders. Ideally, the candidate will be bringing this expertise from past experience within a local market media planning role as well as potentially from global roles.

Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability:

 

 

  1. Strategic Planning Responsibility & Support

 

  • Working closely with Global Strategists and/or Global ADs in delivering Strategic Comms deliverables (e.g. Brand strategies, SP&A analysis, Segmentation application)
  • Leading and overseeing the delivery of other strategic projects and workstreams, including but not limited to: 
  • Development and delivery of LOB specific market planning guidance covering all of Shell Downstream’s Key products – then cascading work out to the market network.
  • Deployment and roll-out of key Global Planning Initiatives
  • Analysis of Global Audience Segments for Strategic Insights

 

 

3Coordination & Management of Strategic Planning in Local Markets

 

  • Be the day-to-day Planning/Strategy contact for key Shell markets – Keeping them informed of overall Shell Strategic priorities and brand updates, and be their go-to person for planning support
  • Strategic Planning Governance - Working closely with local markets to ensure campaigns are executed and delivered in line with Global strategies/frameworks whilst also being tailored to their individual market needs
  • Updating Shell with the status of strategic framework adoption in markets – helping Global Shell to troubleshoot and identify any barriers affecting local uptake/buy-in
  • Helping to evolve the MediaCom Shell team community - sharing Strategic & Planning best practice/success stories across the market network, with the view of re-applying and scaling up activity in other markets. 
  • Drive collaboration with local markets to select relevant content for and ensure quality control for Shell Media Gallery, and thus also for potential award entries

 

 

  1. Strategy and Planning Account Management

 

  • Day to day contact for Global clients in relation to in-market strategic planning campaigns (across Retail and Lubricants)
  • First point of contact for client/IAT for strategic requests
  • Maintain client relationship and statuses/timings for any strategic planning workstreams

 

 

4.   Overall Downstream Team Support

 

  • Strong working partnership with Shell Downstream Operational Manager
  • Contribute to the Strategic Planning development of Team Exec and help to provide additional Shell business context
  • Provide support & consultation in developing Global team training/network initiatives (e.g. Network processes, System Planning, WoWs)
  • Co-managing monthly Shell Huddles to showcase current work and inspire the wider members of the Shell Team
  • Building strong relationship with wider MediaCom team – including Shell Strategy Team, Shell Digital Team, APAC Regional Hub, SIU
