Job Overview

The Role Objectives

The Financial Controller will be responsible for leading accurate and timely revenue financial reporting for the UK office, maintaining a framework of robust and efficient control processes. Your key objectives are to manage the end-to-end revenue reporting, control process and to support on the creation of one aligned efficient, and effective reporting function that provides the required monthly reporting to WPP (P&L and Balance Sheet). To be successful in this role, engagement with various parts of the business is required, often at different levels of seniority.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

-          Heading up the revenue Financial accounting function reporting into the Head of Commercial finance

-          Responsible for accurate and timely reporting of Month end P&L and balance sheet for revenue in line with timetable to Group M and WPP

-          Analysis of key issues

-          Aligning standardisation and improvement of Financial reporting.

-          To be responsible for the revenue relating to non-client revenue

-          Ownership for external, internal and SOX audits and continual development of the internal governance and control framework from a revenue perspective

-          To ensure that a robust set of internal controls are maintained, and the control environment remains strong

-          Maintain strong relationships with other internal and external department

-          Assist GroupM FC & Head of Risk & compliance with financial close and statutory reporting

-          Manage all elements of the revenue Balance Sheet with all accounts reconciled monthly

-          Lead and co-ordinate the annual budget setting and quarterly forecast reporting

-          Analysing Internal controls and best practice/ Governance/processes

-          Oversee all revenue and trading models and renumeration for reporting

-          Manage, support and develop more junior members of the team to actively train and improve staff knowledge and experience


This is a well-rounded role, covering a wide variety of finance areas, and requires strong commercial, analytical and communication skills.

What are the measures of success?

  • To autonomously manage the end-to-end reporting process accurately and in a timely manner to tight reporting deadlines

  • Obtain Green grading for revenue and Media SOX controls

What will you need?


  • ACCA/CIMA/ACA Qualified, or equivalent. Solid finance experience
  • Ability to coach and develop talent, bringing the best out in people
  • Ability to concisely and clearly present information to financial and non-financial people
  • Ability to interpret and manipulate data in a logical manner
  • Professionalism and pride in accuracy and on-time delivery
  • Confidence to lead on projects
  • Highly proficient with Excel
  • Strong communication skills and to work with a variety of stakeholders providing effective timely updates



  • Previous knowledge of WPP financial working practices
  • Understanding of media and communications industry
  • Previous SOX experience or equivalent
  • DDS/Media Ocean, Cartesis, Hyperion, would be advantageous
  • Ability to work with new systems

  • Desire for continuous improvement
