Overview of Job

GroupM is the world’s largest media investment company and are a part of WPP. In fact, we are responsible for one in every three ads you see globally. We are currently looking for a Regional Director to join us.  This position is part of the MediaCom Malaysia leadership team and is responsible not just for delivering key client responsibilities assigned, but also advancing the agency’s vision of being the most sought after agency in Malaysia. As part of bringing the agency’s ‘Seeing The Bigger Picture’ proposition to life in Malaysia, this position also has the task of growing the Creative Systems capability which is MediaCom’s unique proposition that brings together media with data and tech enabled creativity to drive brand relevance and accelerate growth.

Reporting of the role

This role reports to: Managing Director


In this role, your goals will be:

In three months:
  • Acquired a solid understanding of the client’s business challenges and short/mid-term priorities
  • Delivered outstanding communication & media strategies to drive brand growth
In six months:
  • Provided overall strategic advice on brand communications by applying Mediacom best approaches and delivered executional excellence of plans in close collaboration with local markets
  • Established yourself as lead on managing client engagement, communication and reporting
In 12 months:
  • Delivered valued and quantifiable benefit to the clients business, being viewed as a clear business partner.
  • Delivered a 12-18 month roadmap for how the Mediacom/Client relationship should evolve, the internal/external requirements and metrics of success.


What your day job looks like at GroupM:

Our team comprises of regional and local market execution teams across Southeast Asia and North Asia markets. We are a close-knit team that works across different streams of planning, activation, and local market co-ordination for our clients.

You have local + regional team sitting in Malaysia that will be your core team to help you coordinate, strategize and make the global vision of client and MediaCom come to life.

Client Management

  • Direct client service, with regular contact with the Key Personnel who sits in Taiwan and Malaysia.
  • In essence you would be running 2 HUBS simultaneously for South East Asia & North Asia and one for SEA. Both have separate reporting teams across markets (Mediacom) for execution while your main focus would be to build relationship with Key personnel for both the HUBS.
  • Develop and apply thorough knowledge of client’s business, main competitors’ activity, category news and trends. There are multiple Global projects that would need to be implemented within your region – these include Audience profiling projects, 1st Party Data execution projects and Moments Data projects.
  • Develop trusted client relationships; demonstrate thorough understanding of clients’ business to land key recommendations. The clients would be looking at you as the key PIC for all their problems, from strategic input to executional issues.
  • One of your key responsibilities would be to leverage your work and relationships to drive incremental revenue for Mediacom, through out of scope projects and additional scope.

Project Management

  • Project management and coordinate multiple stakeholders; aligning timelines and liaising with all activation teams. You would have to attend and lead monthly WIPs and post buy meetings to keep the business as usual running.
  • There are systems already in place for reporting and execution your core job will be to make sure its being implemented and executed without fail.
  • Manage local market teams across all markets, ensuring they are delivering to expectations when required. You would be looked upon for advice for all campaigns as and when required. You would need to be the strategic input for all campaigns.
  • Support Account Executive in managing local market queries, requests and take overall responsibility for managing internal budget systems.
  • Ensure financial process is adhered to and budgets are managed effectively across campaigns.
  • Attend regular finance meetings with clients to report on POs and close ongoing POs and resolve finance queries. You would be responsible to make sure at Malaysia and regional level all client Fee’s are billed on time.
  • You would also be expected to attend and lead internal revenue meetings to identify Gaps and opportunities for your set of clients.
  • As a key senior member of the MediaCom leadership team at Malaysia you would be responsible to also deliver new opportunities in terms of business development and actively participate on pitches.

 People and Team Management

  • You would need to mentor not only the team that sits in Malaysia directly reporting to you but also cross market teams that would need your help as and when required. You can create your own system and ways of working which is beneficial for both client/account and also internal progress. This is a team with 6 direct reports and 1 indirect report.
  • Ongoing liaison with other agencies (including creative, content, search) on all activity, ensuring integrated comms plans are delivered to the client.

  • Keenness to keep abreast of all new opportunities and industry developments
  • Good communication skills
  • Network/international agency experience an advantage
